AARP is seeking individuals to fill 30 new volunteer positions in early 2010. Create the Good organizers will help AARP promote its new “Create The Good” initiative.
CreateTheGood.org is a dynamic website AARP has developed to connect members with myriad volunteer opportunities in their communities. The slogan “Whether you have 5 minutes, 5 days, or 5 years…it’s all good” seeks to drive home the message that everyone can do something when it comes to making a difference in the lives of others. Create the Good (CTG) Organizers will help get this message out to members in their communities and will contact local agencies and organizations to offer them free assistance posting their organizations' volunteer needs. Our goal is to link individuals and organizations in a way that meets the needs of both.
In addition, CTG Organizers will develop partnerships to jointly create a co-branded volunteer opportunity which will be promoted to AARP members community-wide. This promotion would include various outreach in addition to the CTG website. The CTG Organizers will work to increase the reach of our annual AARP/Ruritan Community Food Drive throughout Virginia and will play a role in the Operation Energy Save project as well.
Individuals who apply and are selected can expect to receive in-depth training on the skills needed to carry out these tasks. We will teach individuals the basic technical workings of our CreateTheGood.org systems. One does not need to be a computer expert to apply! The main skill required for this role is relationship building as we will be expecting self-starters to contact multiple organizations in their communities. Appointed volunteers will receive guidance from staff and job-specific expense reimbursement from the state office.
Please email Brian Jacks at bjacks@aarp.org to apply for this opportunity. The 30 localities which we are targeting for CTG Organizers are below:
