Call on AARP Utah Area Coordinators for Enlightening Presentations

AARP Utah partners with community partners and experts to offer valuable programs, seminars and workshops on health care, Social Security, consumer fraud, investor protection, brain fitness, wise use of medications, and a variety of other topics. We seek to provide practical information to groups and the general public statewide as part of our mission to serve. And don’t worry if you can’t attend a program because it’s too far away! Our ten area coordinators and staff can often accommodate events from St. George to Vernal. We have many presentations on DVDs, so could mail you a copy to show at your local library or community center. Our presentations include the following:

Federal Health Care Law — Offers an overview and time line of the law’s benefits, including what it means for people on Medicare, for people ages 50 – 64, and for those with long term care needs.

Social Security/Medicare – Participants will have an opportunity to discuss various solvency options for both programs and provide input on possible solutions. Also provides an overview of the importance of Social Security to all generations and important facts about Medicare.

Wise Use of Medications – Provides advice for working with physicians and pharmacists about how to manage medications; keep better records; and explore less expensive drug alternatives.

Staying Sharp – Offers current research on the effects of aging on the brain and strategies for maintaining healthy brains.

Mind and Body – Demonstrates the benefits of staying active at any age or ability, with suggestions on how to stay fit and healthy. (DVD presentation)

CarFit – Offers a personal assessment with older adults by completing a 12-point checklist on how well their vehicles “fit” them. CarFit is a joint venture with AARP, AAA, and The American Occupational Therapy Association.

Driver Safety Program – Provides a four-hour refresher course designed for drivers 50+ geared especially to safety needs. Participants who complete the course may be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance.

In addition to these presentations, we also have DVDs from aired by KUED-TV, including “I Remember Better When I Paint,” a touching documentary about how Alzheimer’s patients become more aware and active through participating in the arts, and “Tricks of the Trade: Outsmarting Investment Fraud,” which features fraud experts from across the country, including AARP Washington State Director Doug Shadel.

Coming soon around the state, AARP Utah will also be holding listening sessions on AARP’s initiative, “You’ve Earned a Say,” which will gather feedback from the public about possible solutions to ensuring the solvency of Social Security and Medicare.
