Arizona Seeks State President

AARP Arizona is recruiting applicants to fill the post of state president, a volunteer leadership position with the nonprofit organization. The state president’s role is a vital and important part of AARP Arizona’s volunteer network, and partners with the state director in providing a leadership voice on behalf of the national organization in Arizona.

The AARP Arizona state president is selected for a two-year term, with two reappointments allowed for a total of six years of service. The process and criteria used for the selection of the state president reflects the importance and priority of the volunteer position. The state president often acts as a lead spokesperson for AARP Arizona with the media, opinion leaders, legislators and the general public. The state president also serves as the chair of the AARP Arizona Executive Council and is responsible for the appointment of all volunteer positions, in partnership with the state director.

The state president position is a volunteer position, however, all expenses related to time spent volunteering are reimbursed in accordance with AARP guidelines.

Candidates are asked to complete an AARP volunteer application form and attach a current resume. Other relevant information such as references may also be included. Selected applicants will be reviewed and asked to come before an AARP screening committee. Applicants must be 50 years of age or older, an AARP member, and may be retired, re-careering or a part or full-time employee. Deadline to apply is Oct. 24.

The screening process with commence in the late fall with the new state president appointed and beginning his/her first term in January 2013.
