AARP Foundation Background

The AARP Foundation is AARP's charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all as we age. We lead positive social change and deliver value to those 50 and older with emphasis on those at social and economic risk.

The AARP Foundation shares a common vision with AARP: A society in which everyone ages with dignity and purpose and in which the AARP Foundation helps people fulfill their goals and dreams.

Serving Communities

Our community service programs carry on the spirit of AARP's motto "to serve, not to be served" to fulfill a number of needs in neighborhoods in the Unites States. We believe the essence of community service is taking the time to reach out and help others in need. The AARP Foundation is committed to building on our long tradition of offering a variety of programs that serve communities directly. Teaming with AARP, the Foundation tackles critical areas with programs that:

  • Help older job seekers find the skills and self-confidence they need to reenter the workforce and earn much-needed income;
  • Assist older Americans who are coping with grief and loss;
  • Give older homeowners financial information about how to stay in their homes;
  • Connect those in need with benefit programs such as Medicaid and state pharmacy assistance plans;
  • Offer free income tax preparation services for older and low-income Americans;
  • Serve those with limited means or cognitive impairments who need help with basic financial activities, like writing checks; and
  • Protect the legal rights of older Americans.

Helping Families

The AARP Foundation and AARP have joined forces to offer an important initiative to improve the quality of life for all as we age and help our vulnerable elderly and their families navigate difficult decisions at various stages of life about living independently, home health care, assisted living and nursing homes.

Providing Education

The AARP Foundation's commitment to making a difference in the lives of older adults means providing information and tools when you need it to prepare persons of all ages for the changes ahead. That is why the AARP Foundation, in collaboration with AARP, offers information on a range of topics. We publish tips to avoid fraud, stay healthy, plan for a strong financial future, and much more!

It's easy to help. Simply make a tax-deductible donation today.
