Christmas Eve is just around the corner, which means you've probably started thinking about your dinner menu. Italians celebrate Christmas Eve with the Feast of the Seven Fishes: multiple courses of delicious seafood dishes. With a nod to this tradition, we've gathered a handful of timeless recipes you might want to try this year, from fried calamari to clams casino to octopus salad — along with a fishless option for the vegetarian, or seafood-averse, among you.

1. Calamari Fritti by John Mariani

Not just a restaurant dish, calamari can be made at home as an appetizer, pasta topper or side. Match with marinara sauce, balsamic vinegar or lemon wedges.

Per Serving: 510 calories, 7g saturated fat, 13g carbohydrates, 19g protein, 1g fiber

2. Salt Cod Fritters by Daisy Martinez

Salt cod is often included as part of the seven fishes. This recipe makes fritters out of cod, which is fantastic fried.

3. Linguine With Tomato Clam Sauce by Victoria Blashford-Snell and Brigitte Hafner

Simple and traditional, this is a quick meal to prepare if you need a last-minute addition to your menu.

4. Zuk's Grilled Octopus Salad by Fred Thompson

A classic among Mediterranean families, octopus salad is almost always served for holiday meals.

5. Spinach and Ricotta Manicotti by Victoria Blashford-Snell and Brigitte Hafner

Spinach and ricotta go as well together as peanut butter and jelly. A combination of pasta, spinach, cheese and sauce can do no wrong in our book.
