    Each year, generations of families come together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah — the Jewish New Year — one of the most important occasions on the Jewish calendar. The holiday meal is an important part of this observance, featuring symbolic foods and beloved dishes from a variety of regional traditions.

    The typical Rosh Hashanah meal includes sweet tastes, such as apples and honey, symbolizing hopes for a sweet new year. Other dishes on the menu might include a roast chicken or braised brisket, dried fruits, sweet carrots, pomegranates, honey or apple cake, and round loaves of challah.
