Grilled kabobs are a great summer party menu item. — Bialy, Dorota, Bogdan/the food passionates/Corbis

Father's Day will be here soon, and what better way to celebrate the fathers, husbands, brothers and sons in our lives than with a few manly meals they are sure to enjoy?

See also: Get outside and enjoy grilling this summer.

This Father's Day, the gift of good health might be more valued than another tie or golf club. Here are nine recipes to satisfy his hunger while keeping nutrition in mind. For an outdoor barbecue where Dad's the star chef or a low-key family meal that allows him to relax and enjoy the appreciation, try these mouth-watering grilling recipes, flavorful sides and memorable desserts.

Beer and Caraway Braised Bratwurst by Adam Perry Lang: If "beer" and "bratwurst" didn't have his mouth watering, flavorful extras such as grilled sweet onions, sauerkraut and a good Dijon mustard will certainly do the trick.

Whiskey-Glazed Smoked Chicken by Michael Ruhlman: The sweet, tangy sauce in this recipe gives chicken a golden-brown color and spicy, smoky depth. It can be served hot or cold and makes an excellent meal with a green salad on the side.

Portobello Burgers With Red Peppers and Gorgonzola by Sara Moulton: If Dad needs to limit his red meat intake, these mushroom burgers hit the spot, especially paired with melted Gorgonzola and sturdy, crunchy garlic bread.

Grilled Whole Fish in Grape Leaves by Susanna Hoffman: For a truly impressive presentation, serve up these whole grilled fish, wrapped in tangy grape leaves.
