AARP Grief and Loss Programs Offer Resources, Volunteer Opportunities

For 30 years, volunteers from the AARP Grief and Loss (G&L) programs have assisted more than one million adults through the bereavement process. Here in Georgia and across the country, they offer a wide range of resources including bereavement outreach programs, interactive online and traditional support groups, educational events, a grief course and a variety of widely acclaimed publications directed towards the survivor, family members, friends and employers.
As part of expanding its service in some parts of Georgia, AARP is partnering with a number of regional and local organizations to provide community-based resources and services (listed below). The hope is that these new pilot programs will be replicated in other parts of the state to bring these critical programs even closer to the bereaved.
There is information available and a toll-free confidential grief support line (1-866-797-2277) that is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. ET to ANY bereaved adult, not just AARP members. It is staffed by trained volunteers who themselves have lost a loved one. Additional information about these resources is available on the Web site or by calling AARP Grief and Loss Programs at (404)881-0292.
