Although American culture has long been considered one of excess, it is only in recent years that America has developed a culture of style—or so says Virginia Postrel in her recent book: The Substance of Style. America’s growing affluence over the 20th century has sparked an interest in consumers to make decisions based on how things look, not just how they function. Postrel talks with host Mike Cuthbert about her book and the inevitable arrival of the "age of style."
