Source: AARP.org | May 2009

Follow these healthy, and stimulating activities you can do together to bring joy to your loved one's world and to keep their mind sharp as long as possible.

Socialization and outings. Interesting outings stimulate the brain. Set up a schedule to connect regularly with friends.

Discuss current events. Help keep the brain active by discussing current events from the win/loss of your favorite sports team to the latest political issue.

Cook together. Cooking is a great way to keep the brain active. It is also a great shared activity.

Exercise daily. Even moderate exercise such as walking is good for the brain. Put exercise into your loved one's daily schedule.

Play brain games. Playing games like Sudoku puzzles stimulates the brain. Fit the difficulty of the game to the person. (Try AARP's Brain Games)

Share memories from old snapshots. Sharing memories in photo albums connects people and also keeps memories alive.

Listen to music. Playing music uses the brain and lifts your mood. Listen to old favorites, like Billy, and then try some new tunes.
