Tune Up Your Driving

Reason #1—You can tune up your driving skills with our new 6th Edition
Over 5,300 Delawareans may be qualified for lower automobile insurance premiums after attending AARP's Driver Safety Program last year. But, saving money isn't the only reason Delaware drivers should attend the nation's first and largest classroom driver improvement course designed for motorists age 50 and older.

The newly updated program can help steer you in the right direction on how to handle today's road challenges—like how to minimize distractions, including cell phone use while driving and how to deal with aggressive drivers. You'll receive updates on any new traffic laws and rules of the road. You'll find out how to adjust your driving to age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time—all without taking a test. And, the cost of the course is still only $10.

Reason #2—We can steer you in the right direction and may even be able to help you save money on your Insurance Rates
In Delaware, those who complete the first-time eight-hour certification classroom course may be eligible for a discount of up to a 10% reduction in personal liability and no-fault insurance premiums for three years.

Reason #3—You can take a four-hour refresher the second time around
Now you may qualify for the next insurance discount level when you take a four-hour refresher course through Delaware's AARP Driver Safety Program. If you've taken a basic course to qualify for the state's 10% reduction in personal liability and no-fault insurance premiums, you may complete the fully comprehensive but shortened class within the 90 days before your initial three-year certification ends. And, Delaware is only the second state in the nation to offer AARP's four-hour course—a plus for us.

Reason #4 -- New AARP Driver Safety Classes fit your Schedule—we've added weeknight and weekend courses
AARP isn't the American Association of Retired Persons anymore. Why? Because over half of our 35 million members are still working. So, if driver refresher classes offered mid-week during the day won't work into your work schedule, come on nights or weekends. We've got full eight-hour classes you can complete in just one Saturday. You'll also find two-nights of consecutive classes for first-timers and one night classes for those taking the course a second (or third) time around.

Reason #5—Our Driver Safety Program is driven by our volunteers
We're in the process of expanding our program into communities throughout Delaware—in places where they weren't available before. We've added classes in Spanish, and are trying to add courses in your neighborhood that will make it easier for you to attend. We've added some great new volunteers to help drive us to new locales, but we're still looking for more. If you'd like to become part of a highly-motivated "driven" driver safety volunteer corps, then we'd like to have you join us.

Reason #6—Does your vehicle really fit you? Check out our new CarFit program this Fall
As we age, changes in our vision, flexibility, strength, range of motion and even size and height may make us less comfortable and reduce our control behind the wheel of our own car. Our new program will help drivers assess how we can make smaller adjustments to feel more comfortable and in control. You'll learn how to position your mirrors so there are no more blind spots, how adaptive devices may be helpful and more. CarFit is a program designed to give you a quick but comprehensive check of how well you and your vehicle really "fit." Watch for more to come.
