State Laws on Volunteer Driver Liability

Volunteer drivers are a vital resource for many programs that provide transportation services to older adults and people with disabilities. Yet liability issues associated with the use of volunteer drivers can present obstacles to the provision of these services. The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) presents an AARP-funded report and an online U.S. map with state laws and practices related to insurance and liability for volunteer drivers.
