AARP Experience Corps Marin, established in 2007, enables adults 50 and older to tutor and mentor elementary school age children in Marin County who are not proficient in reading and writing. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups in kindergarten through third-grade classrooms. The relationships that volunteer members build with students motivate children to excel and contribute to their academic success.

AARP Experience Corps Marin is hosted by Northern California Presbyterian Homes & Services Inc. (NCPHS), a not-for-profit corporation committed to serving older adults and promoting their quality of life. NCPHS operates seven housing communities and five community service programs, including AARP Experience Corps Marin.

In coming months, AARP Experience Corps Marin will continue its high quality program while expanding to serve additional students within Marin County.

The wealth of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm that our Experience Corps volunteers have brought to our school is simply amazing. Not only do they help our students academically, they genuinely care about each child. The students know that they have someone on their side, which will help them navigate their learning. We are very lucky to have them at Coleman Elementary School and look forward to a future working together for the benefit of our students.
