6. The Flintstones
"Flagstones! Meet the Flagstones. They're the modern Stone Age family." This could have been the opening of one of the most-beloved themes in cartoon history. But the family name was changed to the Flintstones in time for the series' 1960 debut. Songwriter Hoyt Curtain recently recalled that the theme started with the "boom boom" of timpani, before he decided to add a jazz band and singers. As the musical director for Hanna-Barbera, the prolific animation house, Curtin also created the themes for Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, The Jetsons and The Smurfs.
