4. Cheers
New York songwriters Gary Portnoy and Judy Hart Angelo submitted four themes to the Cheers' producers before "Where Everybody Knows Your Name" was accepted. The show debuted in 1982 at the bottom of the Nielsen ratings, but its theme was faster to catch on. A longer version, sung by Portnoy, became a radio hit, and is credited with getting audiences to give the show and its lovable losers another try when NBC threatened to cancel.
