10 Top TV Theme Songs

Remember when series openers had catchy tunes and fun lyrics?

2. The Jeffersons

Lear called the opening theme of this 1975 spin-off of All in the Family, "the most popular of all our themes." Ja'net Dubois, an actress in another Lear series, suggested the title "Movin' on Up" to reflect the show's premise of an African American family scaling the economic ladder in New York. DuBois co-wrote the song with accomplished hitmaker Jeff Barry and recorded it for the show. Barry is best known for his multiple climbs to the top of the 1960s Billboard charts as producer (with Phil Spector) of hits including The Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron" and "Then He Kissed Me," and The Ronettes' "Be My Baby."
