Baseball songs, whether celebrating stars like Willie Mays or lamenting also-rans like the Cubs, have long been as much a part of the game as peanuts and Cracker Jack.
As we mark the annual major league all-star break, we select the other "diamonds" of the game"s many songs.
1."Talkin' Baseball" -- Terry Cashman
This 1981 ballad will be honored July 23rd at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, where its featured iconic center fielders -- Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle and Duke Snider -- are all enshrined. Singer-songwriter Terry Cashman, who wrote its nostalgic verses during the depths of a baseball strike, will be performing "Talkin' Baseball" at the Cooperstown, N.Y., ceremony. Not a Giants, Yankees or Dodgers fan? No worries -- Cashman has customized the song for many major league teams with heroes worth singing about.
