Violinist Itzhak Perlman Strikes a Chord With Young Musicians

He passes baton during summer program

Each summer, Itzhak Perlman — the world-renowned violinist and conductor — devotes six weeks to teaching and mentoring exceptionally talented young musicians on the shores of Shelter Island, N.Y., home of the Perlman Music Program.

Perlman taught himself to play the violin as a toddler, while also overcoming polio. Now his students praise him for his patience and ability to motivate them to try beyond their expectations. My Generation's Bill Boggs got a chance to learn how this iconic musician is helping young people reach their full potential.
