What computer hardware do I need to listen to the radio player?

Most modern computers should play the stations properly without any modification. Your computer must have a sound card and either built-in speakers, external speakers or a headphone jack.

Do I need any special software?

All you need is a web browser and an Internet connection. We recommend a high-speed connection. If you’re using a dial-up connection, you may get some interruption to playback. If you have issues, try reloading (refreshing) the page. Also, be sure to check your browser for any messages about updates or necessary installations.

Do I have to pay for listening?

No. The stations are free for visitors to the AARP site.

Can I keep listening while doing other things on my computer?

Yes. The radio station will continue to play while you’re doing other things on your computer. Keep in mind that if you’re using another program that has audio or visiting a website with music or sound, the station won’t stop playing. You will need to disable the other audio source or pause the AARP station until you’re done.

Can I download music from the radio player?

Sorry, no. AARP Internet Radio is a streaming service for listening use only.

Can I play music downloaded from iTunes in the radio player?

No. The stations are set. You can’t add song files on your computer to them.

How do I get started?

Click on the AARP Internet Radio box at the top of this page or click on the word “Listen” in the listings at the top of every page. The player will open and you’ll see the first few stations displayed on the screen. If you want to view more choices, click on the scroll just below the station descriptions, and move it to the right. When you find the station you want to listen to, click on the play button in the middle of the album cover. The first song you hear will be from that album.

How do I change stations?

Click on the stations tab below the song that’s playing. You will get back to the display you started with. Your song will continue until you’ve chosen another station.

There’s also an Artist Bio tab, if you want to get more information about the artist you are hearing.

How can I view information on a song that’s playing now?

Click on the “Now Playing” tab.

How can I pause a song?

Make sure you are on the “Now Playing” tab and click on the “Pause” button.

If a song is paused, how do I get it to play again?

Be certain you’re on the “Now Playing” tab and click on the “Play” button.

How do I skip to the next song?

Click on the “Skip” button from the “Now Playing” tab.

How can I view information on the singer or band playing?

Click on the “Artist Info” tab.

How can I purchase music from an artist that I am listening to?

Click on the Amazon link at the bottom, right of the page.
