The Hank Williams Museum

Remembering a great singer

Singer Hank Williams was the recipient of a Pulitzer Prize in 2010. It was an extraordinary honor for someone who died short of his 30th birthday in 1953.

But Williams had an outsized effect on American music. The Pulitzer commendation reads: "A posthumous special citation to Hank Williams for his craftsmanship as a songwriter who expressed universal feelings with poignant simplicity and played a pivotal role in transforming country music into a major musical and cultural force in American life."
