Two new movies — a charming comedy and a searing drama — explore the mysterious reaches of the human psyche. In Sleepwalk With Me, standup comic Mike Birbiglia tells the story of his rare sleep disorder; a condition that causes him to physically act out his dreams. Carole Kane, who plays his mother, tells Bill Newcott she’s amazed at how Birbiglia found humor in his dangerous condition. In Compliance, Ann Dowd plays a fast-food restaurant manager who allows a telephone call from a fake cop to turn her life inside out. It’s based on a harrowing true story, and Dowd tells Bill why she can empathize with her gullible movie character.
