Ready to Go Gray?

Condition

Hair texture changes as it gets older and loses color. It may get wiry, coarse and drier than it was before. Use deep conditioning treatments, oils and keratin treatments to restore gloss and shine to your gray hair. Hairstylist to the stars Sally Hershberger has just introduced her Hyper Hydration Super Argan Oil and a Hyper Hydration Super Keratin Spray. You may also find that you do not need to shampoo as often. A warm scalp rinse and more conditioner will do the trick. And more oil.

Gloss
Use finishing products after you style to give more shine to your gray hair. Try a little glosser — it's amazing how this silicone concoction can give your older hair a youthful glow and bring the gray to life. Try Oscar Blandi Pronto Gloss or Rene Furterer Spray Gloss. Frederick Fekkai's Highlight Illuminating Cream highlights hair by locking in brilliant shine daily.

Blue
The sun is a major culprit in removing the natural blue molecules in white and gray hair. Smoke and pollution can also dull gray hair. Use a bluing shampoo every two weeks such as Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo, Phyto Phytargent Whitening Shampoo or L'Oreal Professional White Violet Color Depositing Shampoo. Don't overdo it or you will look like one of characters in Avatar. If blue hair does happen, do not panic. It will fade, and fade even faster if you use a good clarifying shampoo.

Act Natural
Tired of chemicals? For good old fashion shine, try white vinegar. Follow up with conditioner (gets rid of the smell), or try coconut oil, Argan or wheat germ oil.

Vitamins
Eat right to give your hair shine and body. Get plenty of exercise. Take vitamins and minerals (and fish oil) and eat a healthy hair diet full of fresh fruits and vegetables. Biotin is a good supplement to counteract hair thinning. Many Hollywood hairdressers such as Matthew Shields and Negin Zand also recommend prenatal vitamins for their clients, who report thicker hair that grows faster (Hmm. This means hair also needs to be cut and colored more regularly.)

Change of Face
Rethink your makeup. Have it redone at a good department store cosmetics counter. Gray hair can make you look pale and washed out. Try out new makeup in colors that boost your complexion and brighten your skin tone. Pay extra attention to your skin. Keep it cleansed, exfoliated, moistened and use sunscreen every day.
