Cheap and Natural Beauty Secrets

What tips did mom and grandma pass on to you?

Some pieces of mom's beauty advice are as timeless as her expensive perfume. Wear sunscreen. Use moisturizer at night. Never wash your face with soap.

And when it comes to advice for those on a budget, well, maybe mother did know best. From lauding the exfoliating powers of sugar to suggesting the coolness of cucumbers for tired eyes, many moms took pride in passing along natural beauty tips and tricks.

Today, when beauty products come in more varieties than ever before, some at sky-high prices — $200 for eye cream, anyone? — mother's or grandmother's home beauty ideas may seem even more attractive because they're reliable, effective, convenient and, usually, cheap.

So, we ask you, dear readers, what is the most useful home beauty tip the women (or men) in your family have passed down to you? We're looking for ideas such as sardines (or is it tea bags?) to cure under-eye puffiness, or a dab of toothpaste to heal an acne blemish. Please share the best advice you've got and who gave it to you in a post below. We'll compile them in an easy-to-read article right here next month.
