The Boy Who Loved Batman

Film and TV producer Michael Uslan recounts how he accomplished his lifelong dream of showing Batman on the silver screen as a dark, brooding and serious character in his memoir, The Boy Who Loved Batman. Uslan has always loved comic books, at least as long as he can remember.

In fact, according his mother, he even learned to read from them. By the time he was in law school, Uslan had collected enough to pay for his tuition, wedding and honeymoon. He realized his obsession was really a driving force in his life and he decided to teach a class at Indiana University about comics as a serious art form. The class focused on the dichotomy of Batman’s duel identities. Teaching gave Uslan more opportunities to pitch ideas to movie studios. He finally got his break when he produced Batman with Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton in 1989. Uslan has produced every Batman movie since.
