Eric Carle's 'Hungry Caterpillar' and His Colorful World

Author makes learning fun

Since Eric Carle wrote and illustrated The Very Hungry Caterpillar in 1969, the children's book has been translated into 50 languages and sold more than 33 million copies.

See also: Teddy Bear Mysteries.

Carle has written or illustrated some 80 books, often featuring the colorful animals that have fascinated him all his life, even during his childhood in war-torn Germany. Carle's art remains instantly recognizable: collage creatures from hand-painted papers shaped into bright, cheerful images. And behind their wiggly caterpillar leader, his books create a world for young minds where life is always beautiful.

My Generation's Tara Mergener introduces us to this passionate artist who loves making learning fun.
