About Guarantees

Because guarantees aren't always what they seem, here are a few things to watch for:

  1. Get all guarantees in advance, in writing, and read them thoroughly. If the guarantee and remedies aren't spelled out clearly, assume they're not there, and make your decision accordingly.
  2. Don't buy impulsively. Give yourself time to think about a purchase. If a company can't wait a day or two for your answer, you don't want to do business with them.
  3. Ask who handles product returns and who pays for shipping. Think twice about cheaper items that are only refunded by a distant manufacturer rather than the local store. Paying for insured shipping to return items could negate any savings.
  4. If an item looks damaged when it arrives, take pictures and refuse delivery. Notify your credit card company immediately that you have cancelled the sale.
