About Guarantees
Because guarantees aren't always what they seem, here are a few things to watch for:
- Get all guarantees in advance, in writing, and read them thoroughly. If the guarantee and remedies aren't spelled out clearly, assume they're not there, and make your decision accordingly.
- Don't buy impulsively. Give yourself time to think about a purchase. If a company can't wait a day or two for your answer, you don't want to do business with them.
- Ask who handles product returns and who pays for shipping. Think twice about cheaper items that are only refunded by a distant manufacturer rather than the local store. Paying for insured shipping to return items could negate any savings.
- If an item looks damaged when it arrives, take pictures and refuse delivery. Notify your credit card company immediately that you have cancelled the sale.
