Snail Mail Speeds Up
The average American moves every 5 years, and every time we move our mail has to find us. Unfortunately, it can take several days or more for your mail to reach you after you've moved. However, new technology ensures when you change your address your mail will be quicker to follow you.
Today's mail is delivered first to your old address before it can be redirected manually to your new one. There is a new postal automated redirection system called PARS. It will be implemented across the U.S. over the next several years to quicken the forwarding process. Using smart-read technology, PARS scans information on each piece of mail to check to see if the listed name and address correspond with a list of customers who have recently moved. If they do, PARS applies a new label to the mail.
Thus, the new system will allow mail to be delivered directly to your new address, instead of having it go all the way out to your old address first. The new system will significantly reduce costs for the postal system, as well as allow customers who have moved to receive their mail more quickly than before. Once PARS technology is fully implemented, it should help improve mail service to the more than 40 million Americans who move annually. Finally!
