SCOTTeVEST

Although this technology-enabled vest was created for the high tech junkie, it will also be very useful for the average person on the street. I found the jacket with 22 pockets, was perfect for traveling. The well-designed layout included an id holder, a pocket perfect for magazines, secret pockets, a divided pocket that kept a bottle of water away from the other items, and two security pockets (with no wire holes). A large pocket on the back can be used to store the removable sleeves and could also be used for a small laptop. Anyone who might need to travel with medication constantly available could even keep a camel pack of water in the large rear pocket. Perfect for older folks who find it difficult to lug medicine and other gear through the airport, or who need to keep their medication readily available.

Speaking of air travel, I loaded my SCOTTeVEST with electronic goodies and went on an excursion to San Diego. In the vest I had two cell phones, an MP3 player, a diabetic testing device, a Palm Pilot, a Pocket PC, a mini-mouse, a miniature USB hard drive, several magazines, makeup, tickets, business cards, and other assorted items. When I got to the security checkpoints, I simply took off the vest and laid it on the conveyer belt. It went through the security checkpoints each time with ease. Since you wear the vest, it doesn't count against your carry-on limit, a boon for frequent flyers that would rather not check baggage.

When fully loaded, the vest can make you feel a little like a pack horse, but in an airport, it sure is convenient to have everything at the tip of your fingers without having to lug bags or suitcases. The removable sleeves also came in handy when it got a little chilly on the plane. I simply took them out of the back pocket where I had stored them and was warm and toasty. The fabric of the vest was strong, and easy to wipe clean. However, the fabric got caught in the zipper several times. In support of the designer, this only happened when I was rushed, and pulled the zippers open too rapidly, which I quickly learned not to do.

For the high tech gurus, the vest includes a hidden Personal Area Network (PAN) which permits wired devices to run through the lining of the vest from pocket to pocket and to the collar loops that can hold ear pieces and/or headphones. This allows the wearer to use electronic gadgets like a phone, PDA, or music player while wearing the vest. For those who find themselves carrying a large variety of gadgets, the SCOTTeVEST could easily be a part of their everyday apparel. Amazingly, even with pockets full, the vest hangs nicely and doesn't look at all nerdy.

Whether you use the SCOTTeVEST to keep your everyday gadgets readily available, or you use it as an indispensable travel aide, it's a winner.
