My Journals (11)

As those of you who read my journal are aware, I have been having trouble with my right knee.  It is a torn meniscus.  The doctor gave me 3 options.  1)  do nothing and live with the pain, 2) get a cortisone shot, or 3) have surgery.  I opted for the shot.  What a miracle.  Although the shot was a little unpleasant, I am pain free.  I can walk normal again without limping or crying.  The cortisone may last or not.  Years ago I had a shot in my heel for heel spurs, and that has lasted all this time.  Anyway, I have an appointment in 2 weeks and if the cortisone wears off, we'll do the surgery, but so far so good.  What is cortisone anyway?

Today, my sister and I went to the Barack Obama rally.  What an experience.  We got to the gate of the stadium about 7:30 this morning.  The gate did not open till 10:30, the rally didn't start till 12:30.  So you can imagine how draining it was waiting all this time.  It was ok though because everyone was being friendly, talking about Obama and different things.  The morning started out very cool.  Cool for Florida, don't know exactly what the temperature was, but most people were wearing a light jacket of sorts.  Anyway, as the day progressed, it got HOT!  We were not allowed to bring beverages or snacks into the rally, they had those items available at the concessions.  Anyway, there were a few keynote speakers on before Barack spoke.  Many different local politicions, and one really big surprise, 6 of the Tampa Rays, American League Champs!  My goodness, I did not know who they were, all I knew was that there were 6 beautiful men standing on the stage not 10 feet in front of me.  They introduced Barack, and the crowd went wild.  Let me tell you, he is just as cool, calm and collected as they get.  His speach entailed mostly getting out early to vote.  (in Florida we can do that, can any other state?)  He touched on other topics as well, but just his appearance was breathtaking.  I did go and vote today after the rally as suggested by his speach.  I am glad I did.  If todays lines is any indication of what to expect on election day,  it's gonna be a long day on November 4th.

Well, as it turns out, I may have a torn meniscus in my right knee. That is a tear in the cartlidge.  I have to do an MRI to be certain.  As far as arthritis, it is very minimal in my knees.  I will return to work tomorrow on light duty and as soon as my doctor gets the results of the MRI back, we will go from there.

How to Ruin the U.S. Economy

    by Ben Stein

    1) Have a fiscal policy that creates immense deficits in good times and bad, burdening America’s posterity with staggering burdens of repaying the debt.

    2) Eliminate regulation of Wall Street and/or fail to enforce the regulations that already exist, instead trusting Wall Street and other money managers and speculators to manage other people’s money with few or no regulations and little oversight.

    3) Have an energy policy that disallows producing our own energy and instead requires that we buy energy from abroad, thus making our oil prices highly volatile and creating large balance of payments deficits, lowering the value of the dollar and thus making the problem get progressively worse.

    4) Have Congress mandate that banks and other financial entities lend money to persons they know in advance to have poor credit ratings or none at all.

    5) Allow investment banks, insurers, and banks to bet their entire net worth and then some on the premise that borrowers known to be improvident will in fact repay those loans.

    6) Allow the creation of large betting pools called "hedge funds" that can move markets and control the outcome of trading, thus taking a forum for savings and retirement for families and making it into a rigged casino game that exists primarily to fleece suckers like ordinary working men and women.

    7) Have laws that protect corporate officers from being sued for misconduct but at the same time punish lawyers in the private sector who ferret out such misconduct and try to make accountable the people responsible for shareholder and investor losses. If one of those lawyers gets particularly aggressive in protecting stockholders, put him in prison.

    8) Appoint as head of the United States Treasury Department a man whose whole life was spent on Wall Street, who became fantastically rich through his peddling of junk bonds at his firm while the firm later sold short those same sorts of bonds.

    9) Scare Americans into putting up $750 billion of their hard earned money to bail out the billionaires and their friends who created the market for loans to poor credit risks (The "subprime" market) and the unbelievably large side bets on those loans, promising that such a bailout would save the retirement savings of Americans, then allow the immense hedge funds to make the market crater immediately afterwards.

    10) Propose to save the situation by surtaxing the oil industry, which is owned by our fellow Americans, mostly in their retirement plans, thus penalizing Americans for investing in companies that efficiently and legally produce an indispensable product.

    11) Insist that the free market requires that banks and insurers with friends of the Secretary of the Treasury be saved but allow other entities not so fortunate to fail, thus creating total uncertainty and terror among financial institutions, and demolishing all of the confidence built up in financial circles since the days of FDR.

    12) Then have the Republican candidate say he would keep on the job the Treasury Secretary who facilitated the crisis, failed to protect the nation from the crisis, got the taxpayers to pony up to save his Wall Street buddies, and have the Democratic candidate, as noted, say he would save the day by taxing the stockholders of energy companies.

    There, that should do it.

Well, I am out of work for a little while.  I have been experiencing severe knee pain, mainly in my right knee.  It has been almost impossible to walk without the aid of something to hold onto.  Went to the doctors, had xrays done, the whole nine yards.  Anyway, the xrays showed osetoarthritis.  So now I have to go to the orthopedic doctor for further testing.  The thing I find hard to understand, if I am in so much pain, how come the xrays didn't show that?  Can anyone answer that?  Oddly enough, this same time last year, nearly exact dates, I went to the doctors for the SAME thing, only in the left knee.  I guess I will find out for sure on Wednesday what the problem is.  I certainly hope so!

    BEST POEM IN THE WORLD!
    I was shocked, confused, bewildered
    As I entered Heaven's door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor.

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp--
The thieves, the liars, the sinners ,
    The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
    Who never said anything nice.

    Herb, who I always thought
    Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
    Looking incredibly well.

I nudged Jesus, 'What's the deal?
I would love to hear You r take.
How'd all these sinners get up here?
    God must've made a mistake.

    'And why's everyone so quiet,
So somber - give me a clue.'
'Hush, child,' He said, 'they're all in shock.
No one thought they'd be seeing you.'

    JUDGE NOT.

    Wow!

So much crazy weather going on now in the tropics.

Let’s see....we have Hanna, Ike and Josephine, all right behind each other in the Atlantic.

I am sure there is one behind Josephine coming off the coast of Africa, but that remains to be heard from.

We are in PEAK hurricane season now and it will last till the end of November.

Everybody buckle down, we may be in for a bumpy ride!

    Thank you Betty Davis!

Those of us living in Florida are bracing for what may be a category 1 hurricane by Monday or Tuesday.  The whole state of Florida is in the "cone" as you can see.  Forecasters are still very uncertain of the path "FAY" is going to take.  So, I am spending today making sure I have enough water, batteries and anything else necessary to be able to honker down for the storm.

My grand daughter had her open house for her new school last night.  Turns out, the only supplies she will need is a binder and some sheet protectors.  I did not go to the open house, but Madeline made sure to tell her new teacher "my mommom is on vacation and will be bringing me to school".  I almost cried (yeah, I know!) when my daughter told me that.  Here she is, learning about her new school and she is excited to tell her teacher about me, her Mommom!  I love my grandkids so much.  Of course, my beautiful daughter is the light of my life.  I never thought my life would be so full of happiness and blessings.
