Who's Your Daddy?

My family history, like that of many Americans, is complicated.

My father, Gottfried William (Bill) Moser, was born in 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the first natural born American in my family tree. His parents were both immigrants. My paternal grandfather, Paul Moser (for who I am named) was from Bern, Switzerland, while my paternal grandmother, Jeanie Buchanan, hailed from Glasgow, Scotland.

My mother, Tatiana Giorgivna Moser (ne' Chirikov) was born in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia to immigrant White Russian parents, Georgi Evgeniavich Chirikov and Vera Constantinovna Chirikov (ne' Troitskaya). They immigrated to Paris after World War II, and then to America in 1947.

I will post more about my family soon, but suffice it to say that I have extended family all over the place, including Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, Nizhni Novgorod, Russia and Glasgow Scotland.

Whirlingdervish, you ask who is my daddy? Only a DNA profile and match will resolve that question to my satisfaction. LOL

All I know is my alleged paternal grandfather and grandmother are from a region surrounding Rimouski in the province of Quebec, Canada. I visited it in the summer of 2006 and took soil from the cemetery in which many of our family are buried in the little town of Bic. My grandparents are descended in a documented history and unbroken line from the first of our family who arrived in the new world during the early 1600s. The Quebec Church records are the first and foremost records of absolute proof. Subsequently, my father was a "yupper" born in Michigan in 1902, the first in our American family tree.

Another relative predating my grandfather's and grandmother's undocumented alien entry into what is now called Wisconsin in the late 1700's. married an Indian princess whose son became a well known citizen and later tried for murder but acquitted in a famous trial. A book has been written of the account.

Three of our family name served in the Civil War. More is yet to be discovered , hopefully, by my genealogical research efforts.

Wisconsin has a rich history of the early French contributions in all facets. I am well acquainted past and present with Vieu, named after my elementary school, Marquette, named after a famous University which I attended, and Juneau, named after a county and other sites which I have visited, and so many others in Wisconsin of French heritage.

Our roots define us, to a certain extent. After that rich experience, it is up to us individually.

Paul, you should add this to your genealogy group - it's quite interesting! I may even share some of my own crazy family history ;)
