I saw your picture with the statue and thought you might like to read this bit of information. Flo
If a statue in the
park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air,
the person died in battle. If the horse has one front leg in
the air, the person died because of wounds received in battle.
If the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died
of natural causes

Thanks for the information, but I think this probably varies with the different parks. This particular statue is of Gen. Longstreet at Gettysburg Battlefield. There, until this one was put up in, I think 1998, two hooves up-they died in that battle, one hoof up they were injured in that battle, all four down-they were uninjured in that battle. According to what I have read this was done by accident. They noticed the significance later. Gen. Longstreet was not injured or killed in the battle so I don't know why they didn't put all four hooves down as they knew about this at that time. Another difference on different battlefields is a cannon barrel sticking up means a general died at some battlefields, but at Gettysburg it means a general had his headquarters there.
Thanks for sharing and I will keep that in mind at other battlefields and try to find out if that holds true there.
