The concrete barriers along the median strip have inductive pickup capability, with an arm extending from the vehicle to pick off the AC power. No "slots" in the roadway are needed, and would be difficult to maintain anyway. Yes, there is no free lunch, even when there were only horses - waste disposal was a problem. Perhaps we can bury it in the floors of prison cells for repeat felony offenders.
Thank you! I'm still very new at this process, and have started truncating what I am saying to keep it all short. My intention was that "battery plus" type vehicles(an idea I put to Electric Power Research Institute in 1990) be used as commuter vehicles in areas such as Los Angeles that have lots of emissions, but little photosynthesis. Battery plus vehicles have only about 20 miles range on small batteries and run on imbedded slot car probes for the bulk of the trip to work. More on those in a different posting. U R rite on ethanol, too! Wow!
The battery breakthroughs are in process- just not there yet. Also depending on the materials used, disposal becomes a problem also. Hydrogen fuel cells are interesting, but create water vapor, which is the leading contributor to earth warming trends, much more than CO2, so if everyone ran fuel cells, LA would be fogged over 24/7. It's a tough issue all around. The solutions will be driven by economics, not politics or even science. What are embedded slot car probes?
