About Me

I have just published my first book TIME OF TRIUMPH, a collection of short stories and poems that can be previewed on Google and Amazon. During Route 66's nostalgic heyday, I was a route 66 icon togeather with my restaurant the Club Cafe in Santa Rosa, New Mexico where I grew up shining shoes and hawking newspapers on the old road. I was featured in books, newspapers and magazines and on TV. Presently I am writing my first novel. I do poetry readings and am well published in both Spanish and English in various venues. Should I continue to find the fire, I hope to write two novels and a second book of poetry and short stories. In Taos I've acted on stage and had a part in a movie that premiered this summer. After I retired from business my life has been pure joy filled with artistic accomplishments and a keen sense of worth

Interests:
I shoot pool, dance, swim, camp out, read books, love to eat out, attend movies and ballet, opera in Santa Fe, New Mexico, chamber music, flamenco dancing, music events, poetry readings and visit with friends at a local pub, in Taos. I assist the ederly with benifit applications and provide transportation to and from medical needs.

CRY HOPE

In despair
I cried out to God
Screamed to the sun, moon and the stars
And called to beyond the beyond
Far into the empty vastness of the universe
That violent and turbulent caldron of creation
To all things
Eternally big and infinitely small
That place where star stuff gathers and shatters
Into old endings and new beginnings
To please, please
Lift me out of this living hell
Of sudden failure and failed hopes
And shattered dreams
In my sleep
A flash of brilliance wakes and blinds my mind
I shake in panic and fear
Then of a sudden in a surreal stillness
I am calmed
Enraptured in a peaceful rest that stills my heart
My cry is answered!
I am awash in the scarlet aura
Of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains
Where the winter snows sweep
Down steep
 North facing ravines
Where the wind is high in the pines
Then, there, slowly… alone
Refreshed and revived by the rush
Of icy waters rumbling
 In the clear streams
And the clean breath
Of the bracing mountain breeze
There…at dawn
 First light splits the dark
The night stillness and silence slips away

Morning brightens
Birds, unseen, in the heavy green of the forest
Sing, shrill, warble and trill
A lone raven
Draped in coal black
Catches a stream of sheen
 Off the rising sun’s beams
The force of its flapping wings
Cracks the flora scented wind
Whoosh, swish, hiss
Caw! Caw!   Caw!
Echoes out and up into the sky
As it flies across the meadow and into the trees
There, afterwards
In the heat of the mid-day sun on my back
In the thick of the woods
I lay on a bed of fallen pines
Quiet and still
In my ears I listen
In my head --
Where the mind ignites the brain--
I hear
The songs of silence
 The sounds of solitude
My heart swells
My spirit thrills
My soul soars and wells
What once was heavy is now light
What once was dark is now bright
Down switch back curves to Taos I go
Snow on the alpine peaks above timberline
Poetry, music, dance, a little wine
In a fever to be free of fear
I begin to mend, to love life with lust
To live with passion and fire in my heart
To laugh…again

Vivid images in your poetry and thoughtful. Good poetry should make us think and/or feel and yours does. I will look at some more of your writings. I write poetry, fiction, and essay type articles, but have had only a few articles published. Since taking early retirement about 4 years ago, I'm supposed to have "time" to devote to it. I'm now committing to it and hope to get published this year.
I just joined this online community yesterday and am still feeling my way around. Best of luck in your writing (and other) endeavors and check out my page in a week or two and see if I've put some writings of mine. Would be interesting to see the difference (or sameness) in male/female angst and other emotional matters in a he/she manner.
By the way, I'm a native Virginian currently living in Indiana, but LOVE New Mexico. I have friends in ALBQ and have visited Santa Fe and Taos and hope to be able to return this year. I especially remember a day in July when we left my friend's home with frozen water to have on hand and we were just going shopping! Then when we went to Taos, we sat outside at a little cantina with a lovely breeze. Land of Enchantment - oh yeah

I hope you see a little humor in this; When I first saw your Profile name and picture my mind was wandering a little. Not that you look anything like Chairman Mao, but before I realized your reference was to Taos, New Mexico, I had already envisioned something on the order of the Communist Manifesto or the writings of Mao. Sometimes my eyes read letters a little differently than they are written. I was glad to see you were writing of our homeland. Now I guess you are wondering why I would have bothered to read it if I thought it was something else entirely. Really cannot answer that one! "Wakan Tankan Nici Un" TOMMY
