About Me

Married to my Cape Cod summer sweetheart from 40 years ago after reconnecting a few years ago via the Internet. After long-distance relationship, we married and I retired a little more than a year ago, relocating to the Southeast after living all my life in New England. A little bit of culture shock for me, but I do love my home. I do miss my two grown sons back home in New England, as well as my other family members and good friends. I gained two stepsons through marriage and am enjoying 'step' grandkids who live nearby. My husband is still a few years from retiring and I can't seem to get used to being home all day! So, here I am in the 'Retired and Restless' group! I have always had a career, even while raising my boys. I retired as finance director of a municipality, a highly stressful job in this budget busting economy. I miss the work but not the politics. I am torn between finding some part-time work with a flexible schedule and taking some courses in something interesting. Also, I want to be able to travel whenever the opportunity presents itself and committing to a job or even courses might prevent that. So, I continue to search for that perfect thing that will once again result in that "high" that I used to get when I balanced the books!

Interests:
I like to write, both prose and poetry and enjoy writing my blog. That's really fun and gives me a way to connect to those friends and family who live far away. I would love to get back into writing poetry and when I feel inspired, perhaps I will. See a few samples in my journals posted here. I enjoy dabbling in genealogy, going to the movies and word puzzles. Lately doing Suduko puzzles has been taking up some of my time. Before relocating I was also active in my church, singing in the choir and serving on committees. I love choral singing but haven't found a choir or a chorus here in TN. My husband and I recently took up golf. Let's just say I am not a natural!

SHOOTING STAR

By Suzanne Eaton

I saw a single shooting star while I lay in bed last night.
I dared not close my eyes to sleep lest I would miss the sight
Of yet another shooting star across the glittered skies
That I was certain would appear should I rest my wearied eyes.

Strange, how bright one star appears against an ebon sky
Simply for its movement while others just stand by.
So quickly did it disappear-a brief and brilliant fall-
It made me question what I’d seen, if anything at all.

I kept a hopeful vigil then, my chin upon the sill,
And through the summer screens it seemed the world was standing still.
The twinkling of the glitter dome, a gift for all to share.
I felt with peaceful certainty a larger presence there.

Soon sleep became the hunter and I became the prey.
The aim was true, the mark was found, and down to sleep, I lay.
Though saddened I had only seen one fleeting comet bright
I woke next morn, my faith renewed by the new day filled with light.

I envy you for living in Tennessee, my home state! A parttime job and other things keeps me in Louisiana. We have many common interests, including reading, writing, and travel. I try to read about one book per week, and have eclectic taste in type. Just yesterday I finished "Metamorphoses" by Ovid and started reading "Silas Marner" by George Eliot, and have "Stuff of Thought" on request at the library. My wife and I also enjoy travel.

Go to the New York Times website for a great sudoku puzzle page.
