About Me

I am a summer intern working at AARP and will be helping to moderate the Walking! Who Knew group. I am looking forward to hearing people's expereinces and sharing some of my own. I am currently studying Public Health Marketing at George Washington University and am interested in increasing rates of physical activity domestically and improving water quality globally. Growing up as an only child and only grandchild with my grandparents living around the corner, I was always interested in older adults and was excited by the opportunity to work at AARP. I am living at home for the summer, where my mother has just started an AARP walking program, so it is exciting to see firsthand the struggles and victories of an exercise program. Hopefully this forum will be a place of encouragement to bolster everyone in the daily decision of whether or not to take those extra steps!

Interests:
Walking, hiking, tennis, dance, and enjoying the outdoors with friends and family.

It happens everytime... the mailbox decision.

It's the biggest decision of every walk; at the end of my driveway do I turn right at the mailbox and go on the tried and true walking route I always take, or do I turn left and forge a new path.  Invariably, I turn right and stick with the tried and true, a bit wistful I am not exploring new parts of the suburban frontier.

I know the benefits of exercise variation, how it challenges the mind and body in different ways.  Still, I like the calm certainty of my walk, a certainty which allows my mind to wander and find rest as my body takes motion along its unvarying walking route.

I am not sure just what happened. I just wrote that I was aware of your inquiries and lack of response. I am so upset that so few folk decided to respond. Your are doing a service, albiet cheap labor, but I value your time. I try and respond to your posts. I pray you don't take the lax of replys as a given. Most folk are unsure of how to respond. Some are just plain scared to say what they feel. Most are just too stupid to give a dam# and therefore don't count anyways.
I will do whatever I can to help you. An internship is a gift. Cheap, but a gift...Please let me know if I can help. I really do try and reply to your queries..

I love it! Good for you!

I had previously written that I walk with my dogs.
I had chronic fatigue, and some other things making these walks difficult, and as that slowed, walking picked up. Now I am in an area where walking is difficult, even with the dogs... streets, etc. 1Sunshine
