Debo

Debo
Big loveable boy with always a smile!

We found an abandoned Pit mix alongside the road. She and her littermates were evidently just dropped off here and there in several nearby cities. I pray the other three ended up in loving homes...noone called about our newfound friend. I didn't mention in the paper that she had Pit in her...just said a large dog, and to call with description. (I didn't want someone to grab her for fighting!)

She is gorgeous and the most loving dog I have ever had in all my growing-up years. Even my DH is madly in love with her now! We have only one problem...she loves to run and, if she gets outside free, she not only snuffs our entire property but crosses into other yards. One neighbor called to ask that she be tied because she was afraid Brynn (she's brindle) would "eat" her little dog or hurt her children.

I understand her concern, with the characterization Pits are given in society. She is big, with a black Pit-face and a big wide smile...to see her without knowing who she is or that she dearly loves people both big and small, I'm sure I'd be nervous, too.

I really wish someone like the "Dog Whisperer" were in this area so that I could have her thoroughly dog-socialized and find ways to put neighborhood minds at ease! I don't want Brynn to suffer any more negative or cruel experiences than she has already! The vet says she's about one year old.

I'm so sorry you so tragically lost Debo!

Thank you for your complement. This photo is so bittersweet for me. Debo was such a sweetheart and wouldn't hurt a flea, but after a feud with a neighbor about something that had nothing to do with Debo, the animal control people came by my daughter's house and said they had a complaint about Debo biting someone. They had no proof or no witnesses, but they impounded him anyway, and after waiting horribly for six weeks to get him back, the animal control put poor Debo down. My daughter's family was devastated as he was considered a loving member of the family. So, you see, people are very prejudiced when it comes to this breed.
Saddened in California,

I agree with irsuzz. These poor babies have gotten such a bad rep from all the people who took advantage of the breed. It is too bad that these cuties have to be feared by so many. So many horrible real stories that people see pit on a cage in the shelter and quickly walk by. While at the shelter yesterday, 8 out of 10 were so friendly, so they had a lot of pets and attention from me, 1 just sat there and did not want to be bothered and the other backed up as I approached which indicated that she was afraid. I am sure for good reason. The dog that got my attention was a doberman that showed teeth when I called out her name. I am not afraid of dogs but this one I left alone. By the way, I adore dobies too.

Good looking pit.
I have my sons pit and she is such a lover. She is very smart and a great companion. I wish people didnt give them such a bad reputation. I see you live in California. I am planning to move in the next year to Ca from Ohio. How are the rules there for pit bulls? In Ohio they are horrible and so misunderstood.
Thanks
