Realms of Life

As an "amateur" writer, I have personal journals, public blogs, and do a great deal of writing, whether it be about my own life and the struggles, joys, and everything it brings to me, as well as my views about life, love, politics, our world, peace, war, being a victim, and now a strong voice and advocate AGAINST Domestic Violence, being a strong voice about the cure for Lupus, and other Chronic Illnesses and autoimmune diseases.

I will add a little more about myself. I am married, we met while I spent five years there. We got married in 2005, and had a little but incredible wedding ceremony in Las Vegas. Then we spent the entire day and night dressed in our wedding attire, and went through some of the Casino's on the strip. It was also my first trip to Vegas, so it was doubly exciting for me. Due to the loss of my Dad, suddenly from several complications of a knee replacement surgery, we decided in December 2005, that we needed to move back to my hometown in TX, to help my Mom. I am an only child, and she really had no one close here to help her with getting things done around the house, paperwork, insurance stuff, investments, banking, even paying the bills. Dad had just done it all of their married lives, and she suddenly found herself in overwhelm between his sudden death and then all of the stuff she did not know how to do, piling up all around her.

We came back to TX, on December 19th 2005, with no apartment yet, a U-haul trailer full of stuff, our car attached with out two cats, and our puppy was in the cab with us. We arrived about 8 pm, worn out, mentally, physically and emotionally. We had basically driven straight through from California to Texas, just switching out and one letting the other sleep.

I had began the search for an apartment before we left, so I had some things in mind. But, we got here on like a Friday night, and for the most part, many of the apartments here in this small town do not show or take applications especially on Sundays. We managed to get one of them to show us the apartment. It needed the carpet cleaned, and a good cleaning before we could move in. So, the woman was kind enough to get the crew to come in on a Saturday, shampoo the carpet, and clean the apartment. We finally got moved in Sunday, where we could take the U-Haul back without having to be penalized for an extra day.

I will add some more pics including our house.

Hi Ravingingrhia,

Welcome to the AARP community! I love to read and write too. This is a Great web site to share our stories. I grew up in an abusive house, but I convinced my mother to move out in the middle of the night before someone ended up dead. The good news . . . because of my personal experience, I was one of the original volunteers to start a Women's Resource Center in PA, with a crisis hotline and shelter for abused women and children.

It is now 25 years later and it is still up and running. It is sad that we still need such a facility, but I am happy that people have a support system today, that we didn't have when I was a child.

It isn't so important what happens to us on our journey of life . . . but we do with what we learned.
Have a Great Day!
Carol :-)
