About Me

I have one married daughter, 2 grandsons and 1 grandaughter. My daughter is a couple miles away and the kids are within a few hours drive. I live in a very small rural community where you wind up related to everyone if you're here for more than one generation

Interests:
We have closed our church building and for a long time it was like a death in the family. We are meeting as a house church once a month and I have decided to join a Lutheran congregation the rest of the time. I am treasurer and volunteer for our local food pantry and the St. NIcholas Project (we make sure that everyone in our county has food and gifts for Christmas). I am treasurer of the Ontonagon Paper Mill Retirees (my husband's employment) and Area 1 Director of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. I sit on the board of the Domestic Violence Coalition, and help with a few other things. It feels good that I have let go of some other responsibilities. Maybe I can get my house cleaned this year. I could probably breathe a little better if I got rid of the dust

Music:
Classic Country - Eddy Arnold and Jim Reeves are a couple favorites. I like Folk music, popular music of the early and middle twentieth century, swing, easy-listening, some jazz. I have to admit that I know very little of the music of the last 20-30 years. Can't say I don't like what I don't know!

Movies:
I have never paid much attention to actors and actresses, although I like movies. Can never remember their names or the titles of movies! If it's good, it's even better if you have someone to watch with. As a kid, I remember laughing until my face hurt at Ma & Pa Kettle movies and walking to town to see the Sunday matinees. I enjoyed all of them: musicals, westerns, and the usual movie fair of the 40s and 50s. Now my favorite movies are probably good dramas: The Color Purple, A Room with a View, Yentl. I'm easy to please

Books:
I love Charles Dickens. I like historical novels (especially when they are historically accurate), stories that explore character, all sorts of stuff. I subscribe to a few magazines (The Sun is my favorite) and read anything anyone gives me. I keep trying to "dial it back" since I can read away the day and not get anything else done!

Television:
Three years ago I discontinued the cable and only get one channel (on a five-inch black-and-white set) now. It's CW and mostly re-airs shows from other channels. It's all the TV I need. I do miss PBS and CBC (from Canada). I was getting tired of all the crime shows and stuff about whales and mummies. If a show is successful, suddenly there are six more just like it. Actually, I find it too easy to zone out while I read during commercials. But again, I enjoyed an enormous variety of shows: the Gilmore Girls, dramas based on the classics (Pride & Prejudice, for one), Seinfield, Jeopardy, to name a few. In a couple months I'll lose the CW since my little tv is not digital
