About Me

Left-leaning "bleeding heart" liberal Democrat. Former journalist for a weekly newspaper. Currently write as a freelancer for a local daily in the HomeStyle section doing pieces on home construction and remodeling. Compulsive volunteer. Environmentalist. Walker. Dog lover. Cat lover. Horse lover. Actually all around animal lover. People (for the most part) lover. Gardener. Web site designer. Community activist. At age 62 made a career change to become a personal banker. Who knew? LOL - My new avatar (previously I had a grinning white puppy) is me about 27, sitting daydreaming with my second husband. (That's his elbow.) My hair's a teeny bit different now. LOL

Interests:
Walking, writing, reading, dogs, cats, did I mention writing? Web design. My yard, my home. Volunteer work with the Janesville Shade Tree Advisory Committee - urban forestry stewardship. Ardent opponent of Breed Specific Legislation that bans certain types of dogs, criminalizes ownership and calls for euthanasia of animals with NO history of aggressive behavior. Recently became involved with an equine rescue organization called Spirit Horse Equine Rescue. Their long term goal is to rescue unwanted equines, rehabilitate them and find them "forever" homes. The organization is in its infancy, but has great heart and a worthwhile mission. I oppose animal cruelty wherever it surfaces. I am one of many women who has stopped using Premarin because of the way in which it is extracted - from the urine of pregnant mares housed in hellish conditions on "farms" where they are bred until they die. Read my journal for more information.

Music:
Most everything, although I'm pretty partial to classic rock. After all, I am a child of the 60s. I like just about anything. Opera - not so much. Classical music when the time is right. Country - some. Even coming to an appreciation of some rap. Go figure...

Movies:
Action, mysteries, sci-fi, adventure, comedy, literary - heck anything interesting.... Dave, Groundhog Day, all the Matrix movies, Equilibrium, Syriana (Clooney rocks), The Hours, Shooter, Silver Streak, Educating Rita, The Italian Job, American History X, StarGate, Alien, Falling down, The Game (Michael Douglas is awesome in this picture), Hotel Rwanda, A Beautiful Mind, the Crying Game, Coming to America, My Cousin Vinny, Dead Man Walking (Susan Sarandon at her absolute peak), Traffic, Silence of the Lambs (Jodi Foster is superb), The Talented Mr. Ripley, The Red Violin, The Fifth Element - and on and on and

Books:
That's a hard one. When I'm reading a book - it's probably fair to say that's my favorite. Then I move on to the next one. I have rarely found a book I didn't like. I have no preferred genre. Usually I pick up a book based on recommendation or when I see it at the library. I read fiction, non-fiction, history, science, how-to (yup), cookbooks, weight-loss (a curse - overweight), spirituality and religion, gardening, environmental lit., politics.

Television:
SG1, Numb3rs, Criminal Minds, House, Bones, Burn Notice, The Dresden Files, Veronica Mars, CSI (all), StarTrek, StarGate Atlantis, Crossing Jordan, Fear Itself, A&E Mysteries, ..
