Thank the good Lord above, I'm a happy, very healthy, mentally sound woman of faith. I've lived alone almost 20 years and enjoy it very much as I have become my own best friend. My gratitude for all that has been given to me is unending. Being what I call a "realistic idealist" allows me to keep a positive outlook even when the world seems to be going the way of ancient Rome. I enjoy friends, spending time with my grown children and 8 lovely grandchildren, my church activities, certain films, music and my two loving kitty brothers, Lover Boy and Sweetness. I rescued them as ferals and they are now four years old
Interests:
One volunteer program I enjoy is teaching English to adults. Also, I help maintain our church web site and acted as treasurer for 2 years. I used to sing choral music with many different excellent groups, but not at this time. Walking and easy swimming are about the only sports I can do now, but I used to be pretty good at tennis and bowling. I plan to start hiking within my ability. I'm learning to use my digital camera but not very good at it yet. Check out my photos at the URL link http://www.photoshow.com/members/wahiawa. Comments welcome!
Music:
There is so much about music I like it's hard to choose favorites. Let's just say the only music I don't appreciate is hip hop, rap, country and high-brow opera. Favorites? Hawaiian, folk, classic rock n' roll, classical, & sacred and secular choral are on the list. I'm especially fond of Mozart, Handel and JS Bach's works
Movies:
Not possible to narrow this one down, but I favor Oscar winners and many different actors. To name a few, Anthony Hopkins, Robert DeNiro, Ellen Burstyn, Jeremy Irons, Liam Neeson, Jack Nicholson, Nicholas Cage, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster, Jennifer Lopez, Emma Thompson, Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts (how can you not love Julia?), F. Murray Abraham, Forest Whitaker, Tom Hanks, Cathy Baker....I could go on and on
Books:
I'm ashamed I haven't read many novels since college. Back then I liked Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Robert Ruark,
Charles Dickenson and DH Lawrence. Now I do most of my reading either online on in the local newspaper. I only read popular magazines while waiting for appointments. Poetry is more to my liking than fiction novels. I like some self-help and 'how to' books. The Holy Bible is my favorite book of all
Television:
Law & Order, The Unit, Without A Trace, NYPD Blue, re-runs of sitcoms on the TV Land channel like Frazier, Golden Girls, Three's Company, Sanford & Son and Cheers. I also like the Travel channel, 20/20, Dateline, Animal Planet, National Geographic, History and Discovery.
