About Me

I live in Washington, DC, with my wife and mini-Dachund, Gage. I have two adult daughters, one lives in Germany, where she teaches English and Spanish to military dependents on the secondary level, and my other daughter works at a law firm here in Washington. My wife works at a lobbying firm on K St., in Washington. My wife and I are very fond of traveling, and make a point of visiting Southern Caifornia, where I was born and raised, every year, during the late summer. We also enjoy taking a cruise every two years. Our next destination is a Med cruise next year.

Interests:
My main interest is music. Jazz that is, hence the moniker, Jazzman. I was a musician of sorts, many years ago, but circumstances prevented me from following my muse. I intend, however, when I am fully retired, to practice diligently on my trumpet and fluglehorn to the point that I can play to my capability. My second interest is sports. I am a big Washington Redskins football fan. I am looking forward to the coming season with our new coach and hopefully a return to our winning tradition. I am also a soccer fanatic. I am a big fan of the US domestic soccer league, the MLS, especially the Washington, DC team, DC United. I love the natilonal US team and definetely look forward to them achieving stature as a international soccer power in the future. I did volunteer work for the AARP Washington, DC State Office for two and one-half years, ending in 2005. I enjoyed my volunteer work very much.

Music:
As I indicated previously, jazz is my favorite form of music, but I consider my tastes to be very eclectic. I enjoy and have enjoyed classical music for a long time. I was a music major in college for almost three years before graduating in English Literature. I also was and still am a fan of Brazilian bossa nova music. In jazz I am a devotee of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans McCoy Tyner, Duke Ellington and Chet Baker among others. In classical music my favorite composers are: Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Debussy, Satie, Bernstein, and Copland. Folk music has always been a part of my life from Peter, Paul and Mary to Judy Collins, to Joni Mitchell, to Donovan to Simon and Garfunkel and others. As I said previously, my tastes are ecelectic, as a result I am a big fan of the Cream, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Crosby, Stills, and Nash and other rockers.

Movies:
My favorite movies are of the vintage variety: Casablanca, La Strada, The Conformist, A Man and a Woman The Battle of Britain, Lawrence of Arabia, and Serpico. I like the Gladiator very much, in addition to Heat, Traffic, and Seabiscuit. My favorite actor of all time is Sir Lawrence Olivier. Great actors also include: Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, with Denzil Washington becoming more accomplished with every film.

Books:
My favorite book of all time is "Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison. Running a close second is "The Autobiography of Malcolm X". As A literature major I was greatly impressed with" Women in Love" by D.H. Lawrence, the several books of James Baldwin and the gravity of "Paradise Lost" by John Milton.

Television:
I basically watch political talk shows or commentary on television. I do not subscribe to situation comedies or network shows. I also watch National Geographic specials, some Discovery Channel shows, and of course sports shows.
