A Christmas to Remember
By Dee
It was three weeks to Christmas and Martha was not in the mood to wish anyone a Marry Christmas.
Everything that ever happened to her was the week of Christmas.
Her grandfather, who she loved very much, would kiss her on the cheek and call her his princess. It was 20 years ago that he had a massive heart attack and died on Christmas day.
Her very first boyfriend broke her heart on Christmas day when she saw him kissing her best friend when she was 16.
Her husband handed her divorce papers on Christmas Eve day five years ago instead of a present. She had no idea that he was so unhappy with her.
Two years ago her mom and dad were flying from Florida to spend Christmas with all the kids. On Christmas Eve a snowstorm hit the airport where they where making a transfer and caused a delay of 6 hours. So the family came back later and was waiting for them to come in. While waiting there came an announcement came over the PA system asking all the people waiting for loved ones on flight 821 please report to the front counter. They where asked to step into a large room and to have a seat.
About 15 minutes later a man came in shutting the door behind him and walked to the front of the room. He asked everyone to pleas have a seat. Then announced that flight 821 had gone down and there were no survivors.
From that day on she had turned into a scrooge and let people know Christmas meant nothing to her except for bad memories.
She could never see how anyone could ever love Christmas time. It was so full of pain. That was the season when people went bankrupt. The stress gave people nervous breakdowns and heart attacks. It was impossible to do any shopping with out having to wait for an hour or two in line just to get to a cashier.
She had no children by her husband and so she was all alone. Her brother and his family moved to California and her sister and her family had taken over their parent’s house in Florida.
She was on her way to do some needed grocery shopping, when the weatherman on the radio said there was a bad storm coming in. It would hit her area sometime around 6:00 that night and would bring 6 to 12 inches of snow by morning.
She wanted to get her groceries before it started to snow and before the roads got icy and dangerous.
But luck wasn’t with her; it was already starting to snow. After waiting in line for an hour she could see 3 inches of snow on the ground and it was coming down heavy.
She said to her self “I think we’re going to get more than 12 inches of snow if it doesn’t let up soon”. As she was crossing the parking lot to her car she saw another car slipping and sliding and coming at her a little to fast. The car couldn’t break with out sliding even more out of control. The only thing Martha could do was jump out of the way and let her basket go.
She landed on the snow covered ground and heard the sound of the car hitting her basket and dumping everything in it on the ground.
Instead of the person stopping and checking on the damage they had caused. A window rolled down and a woman stuck her head out and said get out of the way or next time I’ll hit you, then drove off.
Her eggs where broken, her bread was smashed, and her milk was pouring out on the ground.
Martha saw that the woman had gone into a small shop. So she waited till she came out and told the woman she had to pay for her groceries.
But the woman said she didn’t do anything wrong and got into her car and left.
Martha took down the license plate number and called the police. But the police said it would be 2 hours before they could get to her because of the storm. They would make a report but it would be her word against the other woman’s, unless someone saw what happened.
Martha went back into the store to replace the items that had been destroyed and waited another hour in line. This time when she came out she stayed close to the back of the cars, until she got to her car.
She lived 10 miles from the little town, on a lonely highway and she knew it would take her 45 minutes to get home if not longer.
About ¾ of a mile from her home she saw red and blue flashing lights off to the side of the road. She slowed way down to see what was going on.
There half way in the ditch was a car on its top. She pulled up alongside an officer standing in the road to direct traffic. She rolled her window down and asked the officer if anyone was hurt.
She knew the officer his name was George. He would stop by the house every once in a while to make sure everything was all right.
George said we only found the driver of the car and she didn’t make it. But we think there might be a young child that was in the car as well. We found things in the car for a child but haven’t found any tracks because of the snow.
By the tire tracks in the snow and traces of a different colored paint on the fender, tells us that there was another car involved that was dark green. This car had rolled over several times before it stopped in the ditch, while the other car keep going.
Martha said to herself “the woman she had problems with before had a dark green car”. So she told George about what had happened to her earlier and gave him the license number of the car. It probably isn’t the car you’re looking for but it’s a start.
Was the driver from around here, Asked Martha?
George said “no”. But if you find the little girl bring her into the hospital to be checked out and then call us.
Martha said she would watch for the girl and she drove around the police cars and went home.
When she got home she found that she had forgotten to pick up her medication and would have to drive back to the store to get it.
As she passed the accident again, the tow truck was just pulling the car onto his flatbed.
There was 6 inches of snow on the ground now, and Martha knew that it would be hard driving. By the time she picked up her medication and drove back to where the accident was, everyone had gone. As she pulled into her drive way she thought how terrible for the little girl to lose her mother.
Opening the back door of her house she was met by Sandy a black Labrador. Sandy was the only thing in this world that kept her company now. Sandy loved to play in the snow in the winter and chase ducks in the summer.
Martha let Sandy go outside for a while to stretch her legs and play in the snow. But after about 5 minutes she was barking and was all excited about something.
Martha went to the back door but couldn’t see anything. She put on her coat and boots and went to check on Sandy. To make sure it wasn’t a wild animal.
As she bent over her dog to look at what Sandy had found, there lying on the snow was a little girl about 5 years old. Martha said to herself “this must be the little child the police where looking for”.
It was now snowing so hard it was like a whiteout and Martha didn’t want to risk driving with snow 10 inches now on the road. She picked up the little girl and took her into the house and laid her on the couch.
The little girl didn’t have a coat on, and saw that she had a few cuts and scratches. But the worst was Martha could see that her little arm was broken.
Martha picked up the phone to call for help and found that the line was dead. Her nearest neighbor was three miles away. She didn’t want to take the girl out in this storm and she didn’t want to leave her all by herself either.
Martha knew first aid and the first thing she did was to put her in the spare bedroom and to get her warm. She got a hot water bottle from her closet and filled it with warm water and put it under the covers with the little girl to get her warm.
Martha didn’t want to do anything about her arm other than immobilize it to prevent things from getting worse, then she cleaned the cuts and scratches with an antiseptic to prevent infections.
Martha stayed with the little girl all night and watched the sun come up. But Martha was worried that she might have a concussion and checked on her several times to make sure she was still breathing and warm.
In the morning Martha saw that the snowplow had gotten through to at least her house. So she decided that she would try and get the little girl to the hospital.
After she wrapped the little girl up in blankets and put her in the car, Martha touched the little girl’s forehead and found she was burning up.
Martha bowed her head and said please god don’t let this little girl die I will do anything if you spare her life.
The words that came to her were her fathers, “if you don’t try then you have already lost”.
Once out on the road Martha drove slowly so that there wouldn’t be another accident to worry about.
Once she got to the hospital Martha carried her into the emergency room and said I need a doctor right now.
A nurse stepped up and asked, what was the problem?
Martha said she has a broken arm and burning up with fever.
The nurse ushered Martha into a room thinking it was her little girl and was asking questions about what had happened.
Martha laid the little girl on the bed; but she hadn’t noticed that the girl had grabbed her finger. When Martha went to back away, the little girl’s hand was rapped around her finger and wouldn’t release it.
Martha started to pry her finger out of the little girls grasp but found that the little girl was hanging on for dear life.
The doctor told Martha to have a seat its ok you can stay with her.
But Martha said you don’t understand this isn’t my little girl.
The doctor looked at Martha and asked, “Then whose little girl is she?”
Martha explained what had happened and how she found her lying in the snow.
The doctor reached over to remove the little girls hand from Martha’s finger but the little girl started to kick and scream no, no, no.
Martha said in a soothing voice, “its ok I won’t leave you.”
The doctor smiled and said thank you, and proceeded to examine the little girl.
A nurse came in and put a hospital gown on the little girl and said they needed to take her up to X-ray.
But the little girl wouldn’t let go of Martha’s finger so off Martha went to X-ray with the little girl.
After the doctor set the little girls arm and putting it in a cast, the doctor said to Martha, “I’m admitting her into the hospital, but you can either stay with the little girl or you can go.”
But the little girl was still holding on to her finger, so Martha said, “I guess I’ll stay for a little while.”
After settling into a room a police officer came in to take down the information about the little girl. Martha gave him all the information she could but wasn’t much help.
Martha was so tired from staying up all night that she had laid her head down on the bed with the little girl still holding on to her finger and fell asleep.
When Martha had awakened she noticed that the little girl was no longer holding on to her finger. But when she looked up Martha saw the little girl’s eyes where open.
Martha asked the little girl how she was feeling.
The little girl said her arm hurt.
Martha told her in a soft voice that her arm was broken and it would hurt for a while.
The little girl said, “When I was asleep three people came and talked to me in my dream and showed me a picture of you.”
Martha was puzzled and asked what they said.
The little girl said, “I was told to whisper something in your ear.”
So Martha bent over to hear what the little girl had to say.
Before saying anything the little girl kissed her on the cheek and said, “My little princess.” Just like Martha’s grandfather use to do all the time.
Martha snapped up and asked, “Who told you to say that.”
The little girl said, “One of the men that came to talk to me.”
“What else did he say to you?”
The little girl said, “The man told me to tell you, you are strong and not to give up.”
Martha was shocked that’s what her grandfather used to tell her all the time.
Then the little girl said, “the other man called me little angle eyes.”
That started Martha crying because that’s what her father always called her when she was a little girl.
Martha was having a hard time trying to talk with out chocking and finally said, “What else did he say.”
The little girl said, “he said he was sorry that they had to leave you but they where happy together. He also said he was sorry you had lost Christmas and wants you to try again.”
The tears where running down Martha’s cheek and she couldn’t even talk.
Then the little girl said, “The woman told me she loves you and has never stopped loving you and wants you to open your heart to the world again. The main thing she wanted me to tell you is that there is a good man waiting to meet you, and just follow your heart. She also said there are some sweet little spirits here waiting to call you mommy.”
Martha was so chocked up with emotions she couldn’t talk, because the little girl had described her grandfather and mom and dad.
Just then the doctor came in and asked what was wrong?
Martha held up her hand to let the doctor know to give her a minute to recover a little from her emotions. Finally she said, “this little girl has giving me new hope and a Christmas present that I needed more than any thing else in the world.”
The doctor looked puzzled and said, “What did she give you?”
Martha said, “A second chance to love again.”
The doctor said, “Well there is a social worker on his way to get the little girl. You see this little girl is an orphan but she was kidnapped from the orphanage. They have come to take her back.”
Martha started to feel the strings in her heart start to pull for this little girl.
Just then the social worker came in.
Martha looked at the man standing there and asked, “Can I talk to you out in the hall for a minute.”
Outside the room Martha asked, “Where are you taking her?”
The man looked into her eyes and all of a sudden Martha couldn’t hear a word he was saying, or at least remember what he said. Then she saw a warm glow in his eyes.
Finally Martha snapped out of it and asked the question again.
The man said, “My name is Sam I have come to check on the little girl. The little girls name is Sarah and will be taking her back to the orphanage in Texas.”
“But that’s so far away,” said Martha. Thinking for a second she asked, “What would it take to let her stay here until after Christmas?”
Sam said, “I don’t know but I’m sure if you got a lawyer he could make it happen.”
So Martha said, “don’t go anywhere I’ll be right back.”
About an hour later Martha was back with a court order giving Martha temporary custody of the little girl.
Sam said, “How did you get this so fast?”
Martha said, “Well I had a talk with someone and explained I wanted to change and if you let me help this little girl, I would do what ever was needed.”
Sam was puzzled but didn’t say anything.
“The first lawyer I talked to,” said Martha, “knew just what to do and was back in 20 minutes with the paperwork all ready for me to sign.”
Sam said, “Well I guess she’s all yours till the first of the year. But then someone will come for her.”
Martha went back into the room to be with Sarah. She asked Sarah if she ever knew her parents.
Sarah said, “No I have always been in an orphanage as long as I can remember.”
“What about Christmas?”
“Some kids would get a few toys but most of us only got one present.”
“What did you do at Christmas time?”
Sarah said, ”Christmas day we would open our present and then have a dinner and that’s all we did.”
Martha thought how sad, but she had made a promise to make a change in her life and it was going to start with little Sarah.
So after Sarah was released from the hospital and she was feeling good they went shopping for decorations and a Christmas tree.
Martha was getting a feeling in her heart like the one she felt so many years ago and it was wonderful.
At home Martha had Sarah rest for a while before they got busy with decorating. They had a wonderful time putting all the decorations up and singing Christmas Carols. Martha even got out her cookbooks to make cookies and other goodies. Then they went to her neighbors and friends to pass out bundles of fresh baked goodies and a Christmas card.
Sarah said, “This is fun, I’ve never done this before.”
The time passed so quickly that it was now Christmas Eve and Martha hadn’t had time to buy Sarah a Christmas present.
A TV station had herd about Sarah and came over and interviewed both Martha and little Sarah for a special story for Christmas Eve.
Then it happened, the doorbell had rang and there was George the police officer with a big bag of presents. But it didn’t stop there. People where stopping by from all over to bring little Sarah presents.
Maratha chuckled and said, “Why did we bother to buy a Christmas tree when you can’t see it from all the presents.”
It was 9:00 before Sarah got into bed that night. She was so tired that she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
The next morning the sun was bright and they had a wonderful time opening up the presents and then the doorbell rang again. Friends and neighbors where singing and wishing them a marry Christmas.
Martha invited them in for some wassail and to get warmed.
Maratha had never felt so good and wished it would never end.
But you have to take the good with the bad.
After everyone had left a car had pulled up in front of her house. A man and woman got out of the car and came up to the door and knocked.
Martha opened the door and the man said we are here to pick up Sarah and take her back to Texas. Then he pulled out a document and showed Martha a court order to take little Sarah into their custody.
It felt like someone hitting Maratha in the head with a sledgehammer.
Maratha said this is Christmas can’t you wait till tomorrow?
The woman said I’m sorry we are just following orders.
Well come in said Martha and please give me a chance to call my lawyer.
30 minutes later the lawyer knocked on the door and Martha let him in, so they could talk it over.
Little Sarah tugged on Martha’s sleeve and said, “I forgot I have to tell you something.”
Martha said’ “can you wait just a minute and then you can tell me.”
The man said, “There was only one way they would leave without Sarah.”
Martha said, “What is it? I’ll do anything.”
The man said, “I’m not aloud to tell you.”
Sarah tugged on Martha’s sleeve again and said, “It’s really important.”
So Martha said, “Ok, what is it.”
Sarah said, “I had a dream last night and the woman that was in my first dream came to me the one you called mom.”
Martha was a little shocked, but said with a soft voice, “what did she tell you?”
Sarah said, “I have to whisper it in your ear.”
Martha said ok and bent over so that she could.
Sarah said very clearly, “she told me to call you mommy.”
That hit Martha with emotions that started her crying.
Then Sarah said, “That’s what I want more than anything in the world.”
Martha grabbed Sarah and gave her a big hug and held on to her for the longest time crying and then said, “I want that to.”
Then Martha turned to the man and said, “I want to adopt Sarah.”
The man said, “That’s the only thing that will stop us from taking her today. But we will have to do all this in front of a judge.”
The lawyer said, “I could get the paper work in an hour if you want.”
The man said, “No need we will be here tomorrow and we can do the paper work then.”
Just then there was a knock on the door and when she opened it there was Sam.
It happened again she looked into his eyes and couldn’t hear a thing he was saying. And the warm glow in his eyes made her feel something she had never felt before.
Martha snapped out of it again and said, “I’m sorry what did you say?”
So Sam repeated his question and asked, “How things where going and did you two have a nice Christmas.”
Both Sarah and Martha said, “Yes.”
There is one other thing I would like to ask you.
Martha asked, “What’s that?”
Sam said, “Would you and little Sarah like to have Christmas dinner with me?”
Martha said, “She would love to but he would have to ask Sarah?”
Sarah said, “Me to”.
From that time on Sarah called Martha mommy and Sarah would call this her home for the rest of her life.
As for Sam he was happy to say the words, “I do” three months latter to Martha at his side.

sorry about the first one I though it was finishd but I got the wrong copy this is the one I ment to use
It was late after noon for Randal, and he had just gotten a work order to work on a third floor Apt. to fix someone’s oven.
He really didn’t like this job because it was working for a slum lord that did little to improve his rentals. But the slum lord still charged the same price as you would for any other nice 2 bedroom apt. He hated to see nice couples live there but he knew that once the lease was signed they would be stuck there for a year because of a claws in the lease.
In the winter there was very little heat and during summers it was better to buy your own fan than to turn on the AC in the apt. There where pimps, drugs, runaways and just about anything you could think of living in these Apt.
Randal had to have this job because Joyce his wife was fed up with him because he was always coming late from work, and would go out on weekends with his buddies and just doing things with out her. Finally she told him to get out so he left. Now he needed to find another place to live.
It wasn’t always this way Randal and Joyce where happily married for two years when one day Joyce came home and told Randal that she was going to have a baby. The excitement they both shared was all they needed. They didn’t have money for some of the finer things of life but they had love.
When the baby was born it was a girl and named Jennifer Lynne. Randal couldn’t wait to show his new baby off. So Randal and Joyce would go for long walks in the park, watch the trains go by and dream of where they might be going.
Then one day Randal came home late and dinner wasn’t ready and Jennifer had been having a problem with a diaper rash and was just crying all the time. Randal tried to help but just couldn’t get rid of this nagging problem he had at work. His boss was telling him that he had to get things done faster and do it right.
Finally Randal told Joyce to take care of Jennifer he needed a walk to try and clear his head. So Joyce took the baby and held her for a while and then laid her back down in her crib.
When Randal came back home he went straight to his dinner he didn’t want to be bothered. Joyce said well I’m going to go check on Jennifer and then, I’ll join you for dinner.
Just then Joyce yelled “Randal come quick something’s wrong with Jennifer”. Randal was there in less than a second and found Jennifer lying limp in Joyce’s arms.
The doctors said there was nothing anyone could have done; her life here on earth was over.
Randal had such a hard time, it really tore him up and he lost his job. Then a month later his grandmother passed away. Randal had so many good memories of his grandmother and now she was gone to. Randal couldn’t take it any more and he had breakdown he could not find a doctor that would give him pill that would take the pain away. Finally he decided I don’t want to live anymore with this pain and was trying to find the best way to end his life.
But to his surprise Joyce came to him 3 months later on a Saturday afternoon and said she was going to have a baby again.
Randal was numb but for some reason he felt something other than pain and so Randal and Joyce where starting to become a family again.
It was a boy “William Thayne” and he was born on Monday morning during a thunderstorm the lights went out over the whole city but Randal was able to get Joyce to a hospital in time.
But then two months later Randal and Joyce where went to a family get-to-gather, at a park in Denver, Colorado. They where all just sitting around talking when a boy asked Randal, why is that baby turning blue. It turned out that William had gotten stung by a bee which closed off his airway. Again there wasn’t a thing anyone could do.
And now Joyce and Randal just didn’t talk anymore about having kids. He couldn’t see having another baby to be part of his life and losing another one. And Joyce didn’t want to talk to him because it always turned into an argument every time and she saw their marriage slipping away. They had moved to another city and state but it was still the same in fact it got worse.
Now Randal works for this slum lord who even tries to cheat him or even make him cheat others. He had a pass key and was told to go right in and fix it the problem. The work order said that the pilot light on the stove kept going out. It was the apt. of what looked like a single parent because he couldn’t see any man stuff around just a woman.
To Randal’s surprise there on the floor was a little girl about 1 ½ - 2 years old and she was so cutie. He reached down to tickle her check and for some reason he picked her up. The baby felt like it weighed as much as a feather. To his surprise the baby snuggled right up into his arms as though they where meant to be with each other. The baby had amazing agility like a monkey and hung on him like the jungle gym.
Randal tried to put her down several times but it was like the little girl was made of glue. Randal said to the baby, you must not go out much with your parent’s.
Just then a door opened which startled him. He kind of stumbled and landed on his knees. As he stood up to see who had opened the door he realized that he wasn’t holding the baby any more. He looked around for the baby because he had to make sure she was OK. But she was gone. But where could she have gone it was a small kitchen.
Randal look up and there at the door stood a young woman. She looked like she was in her late 20’s. But for some reason she didn’t look like a mother. She had on a real short skirt and a very low cut neck line almost to her stomach with a painted face that looked like a Japanese actor on stage and she was smoking a cigarette.
He looked at the woman for a minute and then he felt something at his ankle and looked down. There was another baby trying to eat his cuff on his pants. He reached down to pick her up and saying to him self there you are. But this wasn’t the same baby that was there before.
Just then the woman came over and took the baby from him and carried her back into a back bedroom.
Randal looked for several minutes but found no trace of the other baby so he just figured there must have been only one.
The truth was is that this woman was not the little girl’s mother or even a blood kin. In fact this woman had taken this baby from an ex-boyfriend and was going to sell it on the black market. she could make some good money with this deal.
After Randal checked the stove and found he wouldn’t be able to fix it that day. With what he told the woman he was going have to order a part and it would take about 4-5 days to get there. He also told her not to use the stove or oven because it wouldn’t work, he had turned the gas off to the stove.
As he was caring his tools down stairs he saw the first little girl again playing on the landing. He wondered what she was doing there with out her mother. His hands and arms where full so he would put his tools away and come back for the baby.
When he got out side he heard a noise and looked up and what Randal saw scared him. A crib with its side down next to as open window and the baby was about ready to climb out. He dropped his tools and when he looked up again the baby was on her way down. Randal moved as quickly as he could to put his arms out to catch her and when he had them extended he felt the weight of the baby.
He was shaken because ½ second more and he would have missed the baby all together. Then he thought to himself what kind of a mother would put a baby in danger like that. He wanted to know.
He marched upstairs and knocked on the door he had just been at with the work order. The same woman answered the door and when she saw the little girl she said sternly what are you doing with my baby, grabbed her and went and slammed the door behind her.
Something wasn’t right but he couldn’t get involved he had enough to worry about already. but what about the other little girl where did she go.
Two days later Randal had another work order in the same building and thought he might check in on the mother and daughter, but they where not home so he went to leave. But when he got to his truck he saw in the alley way the first little baby again. She was dirty and playing in a muddy puddle having a great time.
Randal couldn’t believe this he picked her up and of course he got the same feeling as before like they where meant for each other. He looked at her and said who are you and where do you belong?
Just then a police car pulled up and headed inside the apartment building and was back down in two minutes. One officer looked at Randal and asked are you the superintendent here.
Randal said well no what’s the problem?
Well said the officer we have a warrant for this woman have you seen her and showed him a picture of the woman who had the bad stove.
Randal said well yes I have seen her and pointed to the apt. that she lived in. but I do have a pass key to this whole building if you need to go in.
When they got up stairs Randal said he could smell gas. He pulled out his keys and opened the door. On the floor was the woman but there was also a strong order of gas. The officers checked on the woman while he opened up some windows. Then he remembered the baby. The bedroom door was closed and he was afraid of what he might find in there but he went any way.
At the door he saw the window open and the baby was sleeping. Randal ran over to her picked her up and went downstairs with her. Down by his truck he saw the first little girl again and she was just laughing and being a good girl.
Randal reached down and picked her up again and she was still as light as she ever was. Randal looked at both and said to the first little girl who are you, and what’s your name, and how come I never see you with your mother. Then he said I’m afraid, child services will have to deal with you. Then he looked at the second little girl and asked who are you? But the biggest question was what do, you two have to do with me.
Just then Randal felt weak and about ready to fall, things seem to be going in slow motion and then it stopped. When he looked down he was only holding the second baby and as hard as he might try the first one had vanished.
He was holding the second little girl when the officers came down and told him about the woman and that the little girl had no living kin.
Just then like a flash of lighting a whole concept popped into his head like a chapter in a book.
My name is J L and we don’t have last names here we just go by letters. I know that you and your wife have had a ruff marriage and life has been real hard on the both of you. But you will have to forgive each other and try again and I promise I will help as much as I can but I have many friends here and a brother and he is just doing fine oh Thayne wanted to say hi but he couldn’t we both still love you and always will. This little girl here, her name is sally, pleas take care of her because she has no one, and keep her out of trouble.
It was like a ton of bricks had landed on him and he dropped to his knees and wept like a baby for at least ten minutes. Then a final note came to him and this is what he herd “please try for me dad” love Thayne.

This is a dream I had but it was about a part of my life.
most of it is true but some of the names have been changed

Love
Love has so many meanings to a child it’s an ice cream cone. To a baby it’s being fed. To a teenager it’s the latest video game. To an older teen it’s a car or a dress. To a new young couple it’s the bedroom. To an older couple it’s a new house or car. To an old couple it’s having family over for dinner.
And if you stop and wonder about it listen to some one and see how many times someone says I love it in one day or even try to see how many times you say it.
But that’s ok there are so many degrees of love and I don’t think that you can ever count them all.
The dictionary says love is the happy feeling that makes you feel good.
Now that I am older I see most of the degrees of happiness but it’s what you do with that love that really counts.
So put that thumb in your mouth and talk to your two year old grand child.

Animals
What rights do animals have?
You can say what you want about animals but with out them we wouldn’t be here today and I think that people would have given up long before there time if it wasn’t for the love of a pet. I know because I was in that boat about a year ago. My day was wake up when I wanted to try and do a few things around the house and then I was on the computer.
We had a cat for 21 years when she started to have problems she couldn’t walk anymore which means that she couldn’t go to her cat box. We took her to a vet and the vet said I have seen worse but our cat was in a lot of pain he said I really had gotten attached to our cat. I really didn’t want to say what needed to be done my wife had to tell the vet to put her down.
I couldn’t even be there when they did it but my wife did and so she took her into back and gave the cat a shot. My wife held the cat and then she went limp they left so my wife could say her good buys. That is one thing that I am really sensitive about and I didn’t want to go out and have people see me breaking down. But I did anyway.
It took me about a week to talk about our cat showing tears.
Now don’t get me wrong I hunt all the time and I don’t have a problem shooting game.
But my days where empty until my wife came home but that was only about 3 hours a day unless she went up to see her mother which was about 3 times a week. I am not a cat person but my wife is and of course the cat always wanted to be with her. I have always liked dogs better.
My wife was starting to get worried about me; she said that I was always at my computer and I didn’t want to get out. She was right I needed something to get me going but I didn’t want any drugs. Then I had an ides.
We have a VT station here that has a web sight with a want ads and it’s all free. When I need something I look in there first they have so many sections and I have found so many things in there and there is one for just free stuff.
I’m getting of track; well I looked under their pets and animal section. Then I looked under dogs. Several times I think I would like this one or that one but the problem was they where asking money for them. Then one add showed up and they where offering a dog for free.
So I replied to the add and got a phone number. Then I went to see the dog. He had two dogs one was a small one and he said that his parents wanted that one the other one was a medium that had all the markings of a border collie. I then went home and waited for my wife to come home. I told her what I had found and that I think the dog is what I need. I told her that I had already seen it but I need you to see it and then we will decide if we want it or not.
When we got there she was real friendly to us and was told that she had been chipped and that she was house broken. I asked why he was getting rid of the dogs and then he showed me his back yard. It was 4’ X 10’ and he said the dogs need more space than that. Then he gave us some thing for the dog.
The next day I went down and got a curry comb and a brush and some dog food. I found that she loved to ride in the car and that she understood several commands but she doesn’t obey the commands all the time but she was so stuck on me where ever I went she would be there to. At first she would jump up on the bed when we went to bed but we soon broke that she loves to go on walks. After 2 weeks she still wanted to be with me. My wife said she is your dog and she keeps me company. With treats I can generally get her to do any thing.
She will tell me when she needs to go out she will tell me when her water dish is empty or just for a walk. She doesn’t bark at night but when she goes on walks she will have a barking match with dogs on the other side of the fence. As long as I’m with her she is really sweet to every one but if I’m not there she cowards away. But for some reason she doesn’t like the UPS uniform or the truck because of something that has happened in her past but I don’t know what it is.
The one thing that I dislike is that the dog is the only animal that has to get a license and I thing its wrong they should either make all animals that are pets be licensed or none at all.
The cat was the only animal that domesticated it self all other animals had to be domesticated by humans.
I hav alwas wonder about my Jeckle and Hide everyone has one. You meet a girl and you do everything you can to inpress her. Then when she excepts him then Mr. Jeckle coms out. Oh there are Miss Jeckles as well we have all run into them and we all have them inside of our selves.
My grandmother use to tell me if you pretend to be something that you are not and fool someone it seams that you have lost a friend. My grand mother paryly raised me and it wasn't because she had to. It was my choise I would spend from Friday after school till late Saturday doing things with and for her. In return she would let me have what ever I wanted to eat that she had, mostly cookies and pop. Later on we would play card and board games, and we got to know eacher other. Then in my Jr. year in high school my mom and dad desided to move about 450 miles away. that really hurt my grandmother but she knew that it wasn't any thing to do with us. Mom and dad thought that Los Angles was going to get over run by minorites. we had gotten over the watts riots and drugs where getting easyer and easyer to come by. Dad had his own barber shop and his customers would tell him about places that would get broken into.
Back then most white fokes where raciest but in school I never thought about it I didn't care about the color of the skin they where my friends. But I think what my mom and dad saw is what made them want to move. I was comming out of school one day and a girl that liked a friend of mine wanted to know where he lived.
Well as it was I did know and I also knew that my friend was asking about her as well. My mother was comming home from my grandmothers and drove by the school and if she saw me she was going to give me a ride home. The girl was hispanic with a very brown skin.
My mom thought that it was a black girl and that night mom and dad grilled me about something that I had no idea. Till mom told me what she saw. It was like when I started to talk they stopped listening. I repetted my story over and over then my dad said out of fustration your mother knows what she saw are you calling her a lier. I didn't know what to say I was in trouble no mater what I said. Then finally I said fine you believe what you want to I have homework to do. My dad told me to sit back down they wern't finished with me yet.
I said fine I can't say anything because I'm in trouble no matter what I say and so I just sat there not saying a word.
We moved to a small town where my dad grew up there was no blacks or hispanic there. I went from a school where in my class there was like 1300 in the whole grade to a place where the Jr. high and high school where together and totaled 500 students.
In some ways it was good and in other ways it wasn't good. for one thing you knew where all the teachers lived and they knew where you lived. I had a cousin that is almost the same age as me and he got me in a group kids that had fun all the time.
These kids didn't know who Mr. hide was because you already knew every one and what they where like. But after high school it would all change and thats when Mr. Hyde finally came out because most kids would go off to college.
But I had a set of drums and I was contacted by a group that had lost their drummer and after a few songs I was in. I really filt like I could be my self and I played for most of the local dances.
My sister and this guy that we really didn't know until she came home and told us she was engaged. His family lived up north about 350 miles. We didn't meet his family till the wedding and thats where I meet my wife at my sister's and her brother's wedding. But our wedding didn't happen for another 4 months to the day. they where married on Nov. 10 my Parents where married on Dec. 10 my wife's parents where married on Jan. 10 and of course we where married on Feb. 10.
but I was in basic training and we where given two weeks off for christmas and I went home where I wanted to know get to know this girl and I dated her as much as I could.
I had left my car with this girl because she was living in an apt. with another girl and didn't have a car and in 3 weeks I would be back to pick it up. Not knowing that I would be taking a lot more luggage.
In the army Dr. Jeckle and Mr. Hyde came out and really introduced them selves to me. In the millatary you fast learned not to trust any one. Because if anything went wrong they where always looking for someone to blame. I was blamed for a few things but nothing became of it because I was always with someone to back me up.
You had to learn who to trust and not trust in the army. If you stayed clean then if you did mess up they would let it slide. The first rule of thumb I found was never give out information unless you where asked by the CO. and only then you would answer only the questions you where asked.
I think that when most people get divorced it's because they haven't seen their spouse's Mr. Hyde.
My wife telles me that she loved me and she didn't want to go through the dating game again. We had seen each others Mr. Hyde and figered that we could live with the other"s Mr. Hyde.
I can't believe how someone messes up and then lie about it then co-wokers to back them up I have been in several situations that have happened to me. The first time it happen I was in the military and our company got a three day weekend. I saw that someone that I owed a CQ was on for that night. He had gone on sick call and haden't contact me and I had plans for that weekend. When we returned that Tuesday I was called into the first Sgt.'s office. I was asked why I didn't show up for duty that saterday.
I simply said I wasn't on the duty roster. Then he showed me the duty roster and the guy the guy that I owed duty name was crossed out and my name was pincled in. I said it wasn't that way whe I got off work Friday. The first Sg. said yes it was and his clerk said I put it on my self at 3:00 that afternoon. we generally got off at 4:00 and thats when I went to check. I found out from the CQ. runner that was on that friday that the Co. clerk didn't post it till 7:00 that night. well I never did get along with the first Sg. and his clerk was even worse.
I had 3 months to go before I got out of the army they played around for a month. they took it to a court marshell and I also found out that 3 people that I was going to testify on my behalf the day before they where sent on a field exercise for three days. they had told the first Sgt. they where supost be at my court marshel. the first Sgt. told them he would send a jeep out to get them. that never happened in fact they had no plans to get them. I tried to get everything posponed but My CO said we didn't know they where supost to be here. to top it off the first Sg. handed the battalion commander a paper but it wasn't the original it had my name typed in as having duty that day. I told the battalion commander that wasn't the original but they all said that it was. with 5 people there saying that it was and one that said that it wasn't and with no witness I got nailed I had a month and a hale of leave time so I said I wanted to get out a monthe and half early.
I was told that the paper work had to go through ballalion and any one can reject it. so I told them that I wanted to take my leave now. and that only had to go throw the Co.
When I summited the paper work for my leave I have a way of letting people feel my anger. you won't see it in my face or speach I can just radiate it. And I did it was the feeling that they better approve it if you know whats good for you.
it was approved and I went on leave the next day. By the time I came off leave I had a week left and so I grabbed my orders to prossess out of the army. I went to the duty roster and they had my name up on the roster. I went to the first Sgt. and told him that I was prossing out I got my orders that day and I havev already started so you have to change the roster. you see when you get orders to prossess off a post you are to be taken off the duty roster.
The first Sgt. said if someone comes up and bust you in the mouth it will be because I had to change the roster. I told him bring them on.
however the day that I came off leave and sign back in one of the guys that was going to testify on my behalf said when I wad finished prossing out to come and see him.
Finance was my last check out. but they said there was a problem but I knew the finance Officer and he said he would he would sign me off if I prommised to stop be and see my CO. I told him that I would. They payed me what they owed me but I noticed that there was a lot more then I figured I should have gotten. I stopped by the shop to see my friend.
he handed me a manila envlope and told me to open it after I got off post.
I drove by the Co. and the CO was out in front I really didnt want to talk to him because I was out of there so I drove by and and gave him the one finger solute when he saw me he started saying some thing but I couldn't hear wat he was saying because I had the radio on. I saw him in my rear view mirror waveing his arms saying to come back. My friend had told me not to see the CO unless I wanted to get in more trouble.
I was only abot 3 blocks from the gate and I new I could get off post before anyone could stop me.
I did what I promised I saw my CO before I left the post.
When I opened the manila envlope and there was my leave papers they haddent been sent in so thats where the extra money came from.
there was a short letter in with it and it said. Some how your leave papers disappeared and they was going to search me and my car for the leave papers and they needed them to turn in. he said marry christmas and I hope you have a wonderful life.
P.S. destroy the papers just in case anything happens.
so what happened was was bad but my last day was a very good day.
I got to tell my CO how I felt about him and recieved the money that was taken from me so I figered we where even.
After reading several About Me's I have come to the fact that everone in the special day group has the same problem. They are always looking for a new friend. I was told long ago that you will always know know how full your life was is how many friend come to see you off at your funural. I think this is true because people that i know that have died some funurals where small and some that over flowed. I know that I won't have one that over flowes and I hope that there is more than 5 that show up.
I have to tell a experance that I had when I was 17.
I was born in LA Clafornia and I have a the came name as one of the drummers in a rock group. but I had gust moved to Utah and hadden't changed my drivers license yet. I still play the drums but mostly of the good old rock songs of the 60's and 70's.
anyway I had cousins that lived in Las Vages I had gone down to visit with them and it just so happen that their high school was having a dance.
we went to the dance and I met a couple of girls they where about ready to blow me off when I told them that I was the Drummer for that famous group. they turnd and said "right" I pulled out my drivers license and then one of the girls said ok smart guy lets see if you are or not. she happened to know the group that was playing and told them what I was saying and she asked if I could try and play a song or two.
Then the girl came back and said ok wise guy now you can prove what you say. She told me that I was to play a couple of number with the group. they where sure that they had me. I went up and said you want me to play a couple of numbers with you?
One of the guys in the group said sure why not and so the drummer stood up and let me sit down. I adjusted the drums a little to fit me. after the first song they asked me to play a couple of more and their drummer was ok with that. when I finished playing there was several girls that came up to me and asked if I would sign something then I told them that I really wasn't the guy I said I was but now they didn't believe me so I signed all kinds of things and the girls where happy.
to this day there are girls that believe that they have a real signuture from a famous drummer.
life has its turns and hills and the sooner you get the hang of it the better off you will be. and your best guid is murrphy's law. of course everyone knows what happens when you dont follow his laws but that is life as well. If you think your road is straight and smooth they soon get bord with life the same way with marrage if you think your marrage is straiget and smooth then I suggest you better open your eyes. I have a friend that thought his marrage was on a straight and smooth he had told me several times that he was happy with his marrage of 3 years and everything was goind smooth.
It just so happened that one day he got so sick even to sick to drive home he called his house to haave his wife come and get him. the phone just rang.
so he came to me and asked if I would take him home. when we got to his house his wifes car was in the driveway as he went through the front door I saw the bedroom window open and a guy that I had seen at some of their parties climbed out with just his boxers and when he saw me he knew the gig was up.
my friend had come out and said his wife clamed to be sick as well because she was in bed. I didn't know what to do I didn't want to tell him but he was my friend. I had him sit down on the porch with me as I told him what I saw then I told him to keep his cool and think about what your going to do. I could see the anger in his eyes so he told me he was getting sicker and then he lost it.
he asked me if I would take him to the doctors so that he could be checked out. the doctor said he had mono or what they called the kissing sickness.
well he knew that his wife had gotten it when when she was about 14. but he also knew of another guy that came to the parties had come down with it the week before. it didn't take him long to put 2 and 2 together.
when he got home his wife had fixed him som soup and she was fully dressed. so she want sick at all.
He looked at his wife with anger and told her to get out of the house he didn't care where she went. from that point on it got really messey and his road was straight and smooth.
