Surely I'm not the only one who remembers the all day church services on Sunday. They weren't every Sunday only a few times a year during the spring and summer. Hard on kids but the food was so very good
Some of my fondest memories are local foodfests - starting with strawberry shortcake feasts in the spring, to chicken dinners or fish fries in the summer, to chili cookoffs and applefests in the fall. Yum. Usually inexpensive, and you'd get to sit down and yak with folks you would never otherwise meet, finding yourself still sipping coffee and laughing an hour later.
Oh Yeah! And church suppers are the best! When I was first married, we didn't have money for fine dining, so we went "out" to dinner by going to all the local church suppers: inexpensive and DEE-licious!
