Why do things happen in bunches----especially in May??!!
I sit around inside all winter long, and then BOOM!! Invitations have to be turned down because of conflicts with other doings.
We have 13 grandchildren, ranging in ages from 9 mos. to 25 yrs.
Our younger son lives here in town, and has 6 children.
Their oldest just graduated from Concordia University down near Milwaukee this past Saturday. We were also invited to a niece's college graduation up in Green Bay the same afternoon---of course!!
We received a call from the graduating granddaughter on Thursday, announcing she was married!!! Long story, but she and her boyfriend have been dating for 3 1/2 yrs.. He will be continuing on to grad school to become a Physical Therapist. Granddaughter has a job with the local hospital as an Athletic Trainer. She will be the trainer for the Lutheran high school she graduated from, besides working at the hospital. They did not want to wait another 3 yrs. until Nate graduated to get married, and neither family is financially able to help them with the costs. (Nate's dad has been a lay missionary, and decided to go back to Seminary to become a full pastor).
They also didn't want anything big. Both families are fairly large. So last Sept. they decided to get married the day after classes were done---which was this past Thursday. NOBODY knew---not even the parents. They were married in the chapel at Concordia, with Nate's brother and Lydia's best college friend as witnesses.
We are all so very happy for them. They are a wonderful, sensible Christian couple. I call Nate my 14th grandson. They have an apartment down in Sheboygan, which is midway between Nate's school near Milwaukee and Lydia's job here. Daughter-in-law and I have been digging through our things to find things to give them for their apartment.
So Saturday's graduation was a double celebration!
But we didn't stay after graduation, because we had to get back home here in order to attend a concert at Lutheran High. Another grandson was performing in that. Arrived home from Milwaukee, and had 1 hr. to rest before the concert. Avery was in 4 or 5 things, and we got to see his art projects from this semester. We have his high school graduation on the 31st. We had been invited to a nephew's graduation party the evening before----3 hours away. Had to turn down that invitation, too.
Then, on Sunday morning, another granddaughter was was confirmed. Had lunch at son's house afterwards.
The marriage, graduation and confirmation were all in the same family---on the same weekend.
Our daughter-in-law was exhausted by Sunday night!!
I was, too!!!
Ken didn't go to the concert Saturday night. After 3 hrs. of driving, and 3 hrs. of sitting on bleachers, his back was done!! Midway through graduation, he got up and stood way in the back of the fieldhouse to get the kinks out of his back.
In June we look forward to a visit from our oldest son. Jeff is the one who is traveling the country with his wife and 3 youngest children. They sold their home 1 1/2 yrs. ago, after turning a tour bus into a motor home. He picks up short-term jobs with sign companies along the way. He also heard about a company that was looking for a traveling sign person. Perfect for him. They do signage for major golf tournaments----usually either the PGA Championship (Senior) tournaments or the LPGA. They spent the winter in Florida, after he did the signage for the tournament at Trump's golf resort in West Palm Beach. His wife, Judy, went to massage therapy school down there over the winter. She has done massages for several years, but needed the school training to become certified.
Right now they are in Des Moines for a tournament. After that, they will return to Wisconsin until early July, and will be by our house for 2 to 3 weeks. We will get to spoil our newest granddaughter, whom we haven't seen since she was 6 weeks old. She was born last August when they were here in WI last summer.
Lots of things going on! Love every minute of it----especially when I know that when it is all over, I have another winter of nothing to do again!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer!!
