Welcome to the world, Catalina Marie! May God Bless You!!
Catalina was born on Tues., Aug. 19th, around 2 a.m..
I told you in my previous blog about our trip across state to see our oldest son and family. I told you they were expecting their "surprise" 7th child. What I didn't tell you was how this baby was to be born, which was a bit of a worry to me.
After we left LaCrosse, they were taking the bus up north near Hayward, WI, which is where their two oldest daughters were giving a performance over last weekend. More about them in a later blog.
On Monday, the 18th, they then took the bus down into southern WI, to a campground. They have been traveling down to this area each weekend for the past couple months to visit 2 midwives. They rented a space in this campground for 3 weeks---beginning this past Monday. They had visited it earlier, and picked out a fairly secluded site. They planned on having the baby on the bus, with the assistance of these midwives. My concern was Judy's age, 46, and any complications that could occur. They were around 20 miles from a hospital.
The baby was not due until Sunday, the 24th. They got to the campground on this past Monday, as I said before, and had just gotten everything set up. Jeff and Judy decided to take a walk around the campground around 9 p.m.. Not many people camping there at all. As they were walking, Judy started getting contractions. Talk about cutting it close!! They had figured they had plenty of time, since all 6 of their previous babies had been born within just 2 days of the due date.
Anyway, the midwives came, and the baby was born, and everything went perfectly. Thank God!
They will be returning to the LaCrosse area after their 3 weeks are done there. I think we will wait until then to go see them. There are cabins for rent at the campground, but we are not interested in "camping". Too much work, and we are used to our "comforts". Not any motels close by, either, since they are out in the country, and 20 miles to decent motels. At LaCrosse, we can stay at a nice motel!!
The kids were not concerned about having the baby on the bus at all. This is because they went through the home-birth routine once before.
Their 5th child was born at home. The plan had been for Gretta to be born at a small clinic about 15 miles away, with the help of a midwife. But, since she was due in January, they were prepared for a home birth in case of bad weather----which is what ended up happening. Judy went into labor in the middle of a blizzard, and Jeff delivered Gretta himself. They had read books about it, and had gotten instructions from the midwife, also. Had the necessary supplies on hand---just in case.
They had two reasons for going this way. One is that they have no medical insurance. The second is that they hate hospitals. Too many regulations on what they can and cannot do. They want the births to be as natural as possible, and they cannot do that in a hospital setting.
Me? I'd never do it the way they did. I'd want any help I could get!!
I just thank God that everything went perfectly.
Oh, her name.
Jeff had a long list of place names. Places in the states they have traveled through so far. Some of them were pretty far-fetched. Each of their kids sat down with the list and checked off the names they liked. Catalina got the most votes for a girl's name. It was my favorite, too. The name has a special meaning for me. Marie is my mother's name, and Catalina is for my beloved mountains in Tucson, where I grew up.
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
God Bless!!!
