Picking Up the Pieces/Inside E Street

Soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have survived injuries that would have killed them in any previous war. But those miracles have been tempered by the hard truth that many families have become the primary caregivers to their returning sons and daughters.

We document these stories of heroism and sacrifice in an unprecedented multimedia collaboration.

This excerpt from AARP's Inside E Street is also a key segment of the television special Picking Up the Pieces, from AARP television, and it profiles a family we also get to know in the radio special, also called Picking Up the Pieces.

This project started with an investigative report in AARP The Magazine from Barry Yeoman, who also hosts the radio special. Jane Pauley is the host of the TV special.

It's all accessible on the web at aarp.org/tv
