Going Back To Work

I have just discovered I need to be careful what button I accidently hit.  Yes I have to go back to work after being home for almost two years.   Unfortunately when I retired I did all things wrong.   I let  a shabby time in my life  make my decisions, which I should not have been making at that time.    I retired too soon and without enough money for fun things in life.  I will only be working part time and it really should be fun.   I realize I need the  company of others at times in my life.  Where I am now I am alone.  In three weeks I will be able to mingle with many different people again it will be fun.

Actually I have lots of things to do. Joining the senior community club (free). Taking few classes at community (beginner or advanced computer, digital phography) with minimum fee. Volunteer at the place I like to be (there are >50 places to choose from). I don't have time enough to do all I want. I want more money to spend too. I work part time.

".... Retirement is crap, really it should be doing things differently, because when I go back I wont have the same goals that I had 30 years ago...."...

No. retorement is not crap. It is (was) for you as you are explaining that you're not properly prepared. I've read a lot of really good articles on retirement, especially a recent one on CNN explaining how the first year of retirement is so difficult. We early retired over a year ago. But, we planned for it and have interests outside of work. We travel (camp in a popup) for weeks at a time, and we have a large yard where I could garden every day/all day, if I chose to do that. Plus we have some routines for working out and a couple of other things.

Point is retirement CAN be really good. But yes, you need enough money to do the things you like (which we're doing) and have enough interests to keep you going. When you're home all day, as you found, the day can get long...... I DO need to do something over the winter however --- I must say that I spent too many hours watching 'crap' TV. I like to read, but not all day, every day. I'll work that out in some manner.

Thankyou for the advice. Retirement is crap, really it should be doing things differently, because when I go back I wont have the same goals that I had 30 years ago. I already have some of the basics, now I want to enjoy people more.

By the way, a good book to consider is called. "Die Broke" when I bought into the philosophy my life has been so great. The first rule of the "Die Broke" philosophy is to never stop working:-) go figure. In July, 2008 the insurance industry is coming up with new auctuary guidelines because people are living into their hundreds. So, be sure to ask you financial advisor about the new plans too so that you can purchase a reasonable plan. I am waiting for the change.

Congratulations. You will have so much fun. You will begin to really love work and have fun at work. That retirement crap is just what it is crap. I am so proud of you keep on working, and let the "grim reaper" find you on the job.
