Jan. 9, 2009. This young Bobcat was right in my path as I walked around the nature preserve. I was told it was rare to spot one, and I truly didn't want to be the one spotting such an animal, especially since I was all alone. About 20 mins. later this is what was looking back at me. I'm sure glad my camera stabilizer worked because I was having problems holding the camera still when I took the picture. LOL ;-O
Saw wild bobcat 1x in open. It at the bottom of the tree checking out a porcupine perched at top of tree. When I came along the bobcat scooted into underbrush & gone. Saw 1 bobcat in captivity, supposedly injured unable to be released.??
Perhaps MA bobcats are different but ours are a tawny color, with wild fur ticking and few spots. Lynx is a separate species and usually live further north, mostly due to loss of habitat and it needs about 3000 acres to breed, hunt & survive. Great photo. What lens did you use?
Ann
I took the picture and it was taken at the "San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary" in Orange County, California. I went to take pictures of the many birds that make it their home but really didn't think I would be taking this picture. I had my camera strapped around my neck, with the motion setting on, and ready to just shoot. So when he jumped out in front of me I was able to just aim the camera. Well at least it stopped me from running. I later was told, that would have been a big no-no.
Hand feeding wouldn't have been a good idea in my situation. LOL
Great photo .. who posted it, and where was it taken? Most exciting wildlife I ever bumped into in my local nature preserve was a ring-necked pheasant (whom I then hand-fed)
