I know what you mean about your "soul getting tired", you can only have so many patients take over your mind, your heart and your soul, before you begin to feel empty. After I was diagnosed with breast CA, had surgery, radiation, drugs, I could'nt get my focus back on my patients, in the way they are entitled, so I left Hospice. I truly loved the work and felt I learned so much, and took so much away from it, that I was torn about retiring, but it was the right thing to do. Nursing was a terrific career, but your body and mind pay a price. However I think that any job that absorbs you so completely does the same thing. I am really enjoying retirement, having time to read, knit spend with grandkids and volunteer but with kids.I love being around for my family(4 legged) now. My husband will retire next month and I am looking forward to having him around. I'm sure there will be an adjustment period but its time to start thinking of the things we want to do . It will be an adventure! Lois

She is adorable. Who can not love a dog? I have 2, A westie and a cairn, both terriers, both males and both want to be the boss. Next one I get will be a girl. I'm thinking of a welsh terrier, but schnauzers are awfully sweet. We have a large property but we need to get a king-size bed before we add another dog, or we will get pushed out I'm sure.My 2 dogs are 2yrs and 1 yr. so I am taking a year off from training and then I'll be ready to go again. Thank you. This is Annie, a 5-yr old white schnauzer that I inherited from my brother, who had too many dogs and needed to find a home for Annie before the Airdale injured her. Annie is very sweet, nondominant, and has lost that stained mustache due to a diet change since coming to my home to live. She is terrified of our 22-lb Maine Coon cat, who matches her weight.
I am a retired RN also! I live in upstate NY, a beautiful rural area juxtaposed between the Catskills and Adirondacks. My work has been mostly in my home town area, doing public health, hospice, and home care. In the go-go-go years I was ER/ICU/CCU certified and loved that also. My soul got so tired after 13 yrs of hospice, so now I do 2 days a week, working with our local Office for Aging in setting up a phone info line for telling people about long term care services in our area.
thank you for your post!
