For the age I am, you'd think I'd be far more tech-savy than I actually am. But I didn't use email until my first job out of college (the internet and email was available to me in college, but I didn't have much use for it then!). It was surprising how quickly I came to depend on both the internet and email after that.
Email is now a critical part of my job function on a daily basis, even when I'm off duty (thanks to a BlackBerry). I use the interent to stay informed, research, and of course shop! I even recently completed my survey for jury duty online -- who knew?! But even at my relatively young age, I often feel technology is just passing me by.
When AARP launched it's Online Community, I created a profile, out of necessity and job function, but myspace and facebook... well that was just something I thought the kids were into. Until I was asked to lead a sesson on online social networking at the Center for Active Generations. I decided it was time to take the leap, all in the name of research of course.
I now have profiles on facebook, and linkedin as well as AARP.org. And guess what?! It's not so scary after all. And, it is kind of fun, I've found several old friends and classmates and former coworkers. I've discovered the world is a whole lot smaller, and I have a little less time in each day, now that I have to keep up with all my new "friends"!
