About Me

I've been around the block a few times. When I was younger I dreamed of travel to foreign lands. I imagined myself in Spain, Italy, France, ...you guessed it all of Europe. I dreamed of signing on with the maritime navy, boarding a "tramp" steamer and setting off on my vacation. I graduated from high school in 1954 when being drafted into the military at age 18 was a certainty. I was not one to dodge the draft, but I wanted the military am much on my own terms as I could, and not the military's term. The draft boad gave me a temporary waiver so I could attend college. In 1958 I graduated from college and knew what lie ahead. I immediately enlisted in the United States Navy, more or less a family tradition. I managed to get a commission in 1960 which is a big part of doing things on my own terms. Did I see the world? I saw both coasts of the U.S., plus Texas. My foreign travel consisted of going across the border of the US and Mexico at Brownsville, TX. The Navy made me a part of a "good will" tour to Canada. Sor far to date I have yet to cross either the Pacific or Atlantic Oceans. This was not an real disappointment to me. Texas although vast and hot was a very hospitable state. They respected the military and I felt welcome where ever I went. The state of Washington is the most beautiful state in the Union. I planned to return there when I was discharged from the Navy, but by then I'd started a family and had a job in my wife's home town of Salt Lake City, UT., one of the most beautiful cities in the country. While I still desire to cross one or both of the oceans that border the United States, I do feel fulfilled. In fact, I wouldn't be disappointed if I saw only some for of the United States, my home country

Interests:
I enjoy watching baseball, especially when the Oakland Athletics are involved. I'm learning to like soccer. I enjoy music. I can sit at the piano for hours, and I'm currently taking lessons on the pipe organ so I can play for our church. I've volunteered for work at hospitals, but I most especailly enjoy helping adults to learn to work.

Again, America remebers and recognizes her fallen heros, those who gave their lives in service our country. It's also a time to recognize those who have served and currently serve in the military of  the United States of America. I proudly stand with those who have served and salute those who currently serve. God bless you all.

Thank you for your reply and I enjoyed reading about you and your life. My observation would be that jazz clubs may not be the best place for you to wander. Although living alone can be lonely at times, most of the time I am in my head planning on my next activity and where that can bring me that is good for me. Today, I will go to the nearest Farmers Market..listen to the great music, taste some of the exquisite food that is prepared there, smell some flowers and soaps and possbily buy some fresh produce and a lucious baked good from one of the organic bakers. There are lots of people wandering and then I will get a good cup of coffee and just sit and watch the people. There are so many things out there for me to do that it really is a good life when I stop and look around.

Thanks for your reply. You're right about jazz clubs. Although I love good jazz, I have to be careful where I listen to it. The times I've been alone have been when I've been transferred to another city and have gone ahead to find a place for my family. Thank heaven I have a family that loves me. I know I'll always have at least one son around to keep me company now.
